I tremble at my own boldness. Why am I standing here, shouting these terrible things at the acting Alpha and dangerous, violent boss of the notorious, bloodthirsty Blackwell crime family?
Cassian has killed countless people with the hands he has on my
body.
He could break me with a twitch of his fingers.
Once, that would have intimidated me. But now the raw danger of
it only turns me on more.
He stares down at me. I’m shaking, but I’ve started and I won’t
stop.
“You have three days,” I say, and my voice, at least, is steady. “If
you don’t sign the papers, I’ll go public and file with the court.”
I press close and slide my body against his as I go on my tip toes. “What do you think that will do to your reputation, Alpha Blackwell? Not only a half–blood wife, but one you kept secret,
and then couldn’t keep at all.”
With that, I turn and leave. I feel his gaze on me, and then the gaze

of his Beta as I walk out the doors.

I pause and snap at the stunned Beta, “Enjoying the show? If you’re so interested in Cassian’s private business, maybe you’re interested in more? Should I tell you how he is in bed?”
The Beta’s mouth actually falls open, and a thrill rushes through
- me. I’ve never said anything that shocking before, especially in
front of Cassian.
It feels like another step into danger, like I’m on the edge of something and I might fall at any time into the unknown.
I flip a glance back at Cassian, who’s watching me with a storm
and his wolf in his eyes. I give him the fakest smile, and then I push
out the doors.
I have places to be.
Cassian
I stare after Gemma for too long.
Finally, Liam comes jogging over. “That is your wife? I thought you
said she was a little rabbit!”

“She is,” I snarl, and Liam suddenly backs off with both his hands.
- up.
“Hey, man, I don’t know her, I’m just going off what I saw.”
“What you saw is some sort of fluke. I don’t know what’s gotten
into her lately, but I’m sure she’ll settle down as soon as she works this divorce shit out of her system.”
Liam nods but looks like he doesn’t believe me. I ignore it. I’m done talking about my wife. “Have you heard back on the order from Moonlight?”
Liam shifts from best friend mode into Beta mode seamlessly. “No, Alpha.”
He hesitates for a moment and then says, “This hacker has been out of the picture for three years. Why resurface now, just to take out our mole at Nautilus? Do you think it could be related to what
you and Reyna are working on?”
A grim expression crosses my face. “No. Adrian isn’t smart
enough to start something like that.”
I think for another moment then say, “We still have the last hours. of surveillance before our access to their computers got cut off. Get someone to restore the wiped footage from the cameras. Moonlight had to walk into that building to do whatever they did.

Since I’d come to the club with Zina, I expect to leave with her. I find her car in the parking lot, but she’s not inside.
I tug on the door handle, but it’s locked. I pull out my phone and
make a call. The line connects, and I say, “Zina, you’d better have
a good reason for not being here—”
I’m cut off by a raspy male voice. He says, “Zina isn’t coming back
tonight.”
Fear cuts through me and my mind jumps to a million possible
scenarios. “Who are you?” I demand.
Then I hear Zina in the background. Her voice is breathy, and she moans, “Oh, hell, yes! Right there. Just like that. Don’t stop. Ah
”
“You’ll have to get in touch with her later,” the guy says in a
strained voice.
The call ends. I sigh and slip my phone back into my pocket.

Well, she isn’t kidnapped, but it looks like I don’t have a ride home.
“Damn it, Z, you could have at least left me your keys,” I mutter. I glance around the empty parking lot.
Cassian is still inside, but I will die before I creep back into the club.
with my tail between my legs to beg for a ride.
The scene is too easy to imagine. He’ll probably force me to apologize and make me beg.
Then, either he’ll take me back to his house instead of to Zina’s,
or he’ll pawn me off on his Beta because, as I well know, Cassian
doesn’t give a shit about me.
I open my rideshare app and pay for a ride, instead. Just as the car
arrives and I get inside, my phone rings. I look down at the screen.
It’s Donovan Blackwell, Cassian’s grandfather.
The most powerful crime boss in this part of the world is calling
- me.
