Chris was still wearing the same outfit from earlier in the day, sleeves rolled up, apparently helping in the kitchen.
As usual, Jessica lowered her head to reply to messages and handed clothes to Chris.
This familiar action made Chris’s heart ache, but the next second Jessica leaned over and kissed him.
“What made you want to come home for dinner?”
Chris’s sadness instantly dissolved.
There was still a difference.
Jessica was no longer cold and distant. Compared to work, she seemed to care about him more.
“Mr. Hall said he wanted to come back with you to visit Linda. I thought it’s been a long time since I’ve been back, so I might as well come early to visit.” Chris’s eyes gleamed slyly.
It was the first time he openly mentioned Michael to her, also a way to challenge her.
He was testing her feelings.
Jessica responded with a hum, “He won’t be able to come.”

Only when they reached the sofa did she notice a cat lying there.
Jessica didn’t like such creatures much.
Since taking over the Wilder Group, she barely had time to care for herself, had almost lost her husband, let alone take care of a soft, delicate pet requiring careful attention..
“Why did you start keeping a cat?” Jessica frowned, clearly displeased.
Mrs. Wilder came down from upstairs.
At home, she naturally dressed comfortably in silk pajamas, wore no jewelry, but her hair was pinned up.
The usual sharp coldness in her eyes had softened considerably.
“You don’t come home, and you won’t even allow something to keep me company?” Mrs. Wilder sat directly in the main seat.
“The house is so empty and lifeless, not a bit of warmth at all.”
Usually, when they returned to the Wilder family’s residence, Mrs. Wilder sat in the main seat, and Jessica and Chris sat opposite each other on either side.
But today, Chris had just sat next to Mrs. Wilder when Jessica smoothly sat beside him and even took half a cup of tea from his hand to drink.
Seeing this scene, and looking at the renewed love shining in Chris’s eyes, Mrs. Wilder couldn’t hide her happiness.
