“You’re just a woman what do you know? My brother is dead, and it’s all your husband’s fault! What now, you’re refusing to pay, is that it?”
They had finally gotten to the real reason.
Jessica raised her hand slightly, and the police and lawyers entered immediately.
At the sight of the police, the deceased’s family members were startled.
The deceased’s brother was the first to react. He pointed at Chris and shouted, “Officers, arrest him! He’s the one who killed my brother! Arrest him now!”
The officer in charge walked directly up to them.
“Regarding the online rumors circulating recently, after our investigation, we’ve concluded that they are false accusations We have video and surveillance footage as evidence. Mr. Green’s emergency procedures were not at fault. The ambulance’s recorder confirms the deceased was still breathing and even thanked Mr. Green. You’ve fabricated stories and caused public disturbances. You’re coming with us.”
The entire group was taken away.
The legal representative arrived just a moment too late and walked up to Jessica’s side.
Jessica said, “Go after every single person online who incited public opinion–don’t let any of them off the hook.”
“Understood.”
The troublemakers and the onlookers dispersed, leaving only the hospital staff behind.
They were surprised by Jessica’s commanding presence, but once they heard she was Chris’s wife, they said nothing more and left quietly.
However, Jake had been staring in a daze ever since seeing Jessica
He had seen her before at the hospital and naturally recognized her as a major benefactor.
He never expected that Chris was actually Jessica’s husband!
The one that people said Jessica had cheated on!
“No way… you’re that Wilder family’s son–in–law?” Jake pointed at Chris, jaw nearly dropping.
With Jessica at his side, Chris felt much more grounded. He smiled and nodded.
Jake bumped his shoulder playfully. “Unbelievable! I told you so many rumors, me dinner!”
Since Jessica had come, Chris naturally had to stay with her.
“We’ll talk about it when we get back.”
and you didn’t even tell me the truth! You owe
Once they got into the car, Jessica reached out and turned Chris’s head to face her as soon as he got into the car.
Back when she saw him from outside the crowd, she had already noticed the wound on the side of his face. But with so many people watching, she had to deal with the situation first.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were injured?” Jessica frowned.
The wound was still red, and on Chris’s face, it stood out starkly.
“It’s nothing serious:” Chris held her hand, trying to distract her. You came all this way just because of such a small matter?”

To Jessica, anything involving him was never a small matter.
At some point, something inside her had changed.
She quickly caught herself and began blaming him for not telling her.
“I knew something was off from your voice that day. Tell me why didn’t you say anything? You were hurt, falsely accused, and you kept it from me?”
“I’m a man. I have my own ways to handle things. Besides, that family just wanted money, and I didn’t have any. If it came down to it, I wouldn’t mind going to court. The hospital knew I did nothing wrong.”
Chris spoke with conviction, just as he always did. But by not telling her, it meant he didn’t trust her.
To Jessica, this was something that could have been resolved in a single sentence.
With just a word, the legal team and the police could have cleared his name.
Instead, he had chosen to bear it all on his own.
The Summit Infirmary team wasn’t leaving until the next day, so Jessica also planned to stay the night.
Shannon booked a hotel for her.
After dinner, Chris didn’t get the chance to return to his dorm.
“Come on, I should really head back–I still need to pack,” he said.
But Jessica clung to him tightly, refusing to let go.
“I let you go on one business trip and you get yourself injured and dragged into a scandal. Looks like I can’t let you go on business trips anymore.”
Chris’s heart skipped a beat, and he quickly explained, “It was just an accident!”
