Chapter 49
Jessica also came with a purpose.
She just didn’t expect to run into Roy here.
“Roy?”
Jessica was talking with a business partner, while Chris wandered around bored.
In a corner, he unexpectedly saw Roy in a suit looking bored and restless, Roy was on the phone, seeming quite annoyed.
Roy usually didn’t attend such occasions, but since the chairman of Crimson Engineering had invited them, the Felton family couldn’t skip it.
Nina was still abroad and hadn’t returned, Roy’s parents were traveling overseas, so Roy was the only one from the Felton family with the status to attend.
Roy was complaining on the phone to a colleague.
Upon hearing Chris’s voice, he turned around and quickly ended the call with a few words.
Roy stood up and came over holding a glass of wine.
“You’re here too.”
Their glasses clinked together.
Chris glanced back at Jessica and said, “Playing along with the Wilder family.”
“Then you’re a really competent actor.”
Outside, the scenery was beautiful.
Leaning against the balcony railing on the second floor, they could see a vast field of roses.
Under the night sky, it looked eerie yet beautiful.
Chris took a sip of wine, feeling quite happy.
In five years, he had never felt this happy.
Jessica approached and gently hugged him from behind.
Chris didn’t push her away.
In that posture, he pointed to a spot and said, “Look there, that rose field is rare in the country. Seems the manor owner put a lot of effort into it.”
Jessica stood beside him, resting her arms on the railing.
She was silent for a long time before saying, “Yeah, you bought the same roses for me before.”
“You still remember.”
Actually, Jessica didn’t completely forget what Chris had done.
If she didn’t care at all, why would she agree to divorce, and why would she be reluctant to see him leave?
“I still have some things to do later. I see Roy is here too. Stick with him, don’t wander off alone.”
Jessica held Chris’s hand, and their wine glasses clinked again, the reddish liquid swirling inside. Under the night’s enchantment, Jessica looked stunningly beautiful.

Chris stared and got distracted.
Jessica was the first to react.
She stood on tiptoe and placed a slightly wine–scented kiss on Chris’s lips.
“You’ll get a good look when we get home.
As Jessica was about to leave, Chris suddenly grabbed her.
“Jessica, you…”
Suddenly, the noise outside grew louder.
It seemed the gift–giving time had arrived.
Jessica and Chris went out together.
The first to present gifts was indeed the Hall family.
Today, the Hall family sent Luke again.
“Looks like what Indya said was right. Right now, the one who calls the shots in the Hall family is this Luke. Let’s see what kind of gift he’s bringing.
Shannon slipped away from a group of peers, tidied her long hair, and said to Jessica, “I heard the Hall family spent a lot on this cooperation, picking the highest–priced jewelry from an auction overseas.”
Luke resembled Michael quite a lot.
Chris lowered his head to look, but saw Jessica watching Luke somewhat obsessively.
Chris’s heart turned bitter and hard to bear.
Just as he was about to turn and leave, Jessica suddenly reached out and intertwined her fingers with his.
“He looks a lot like Michael when he was younger.”
Jessica tilted her head and smiled, “Back then, I didn’t even know you.”
Was she explaining?
Chris moved his hand but found it being held tightly. He couldn’t break free without hurting Jessica.
