Chapter 47
Everything that followed happened naturally.
Chris was a man, and in front of him was the wife he loved.
Even though they were divorced, she had come to him willingly.
Chris had no reason not to be moved.
However, afterward, Jessica was so exhausted that she fell into deep slumber.
Chris sat alone in the living room, lost in thought.
He was a doctor and rarely smoked, but when his mind was restless, he would occasionally light up a cigarette to calm himself.
There were no cigarettes at hand—only empty moments and loneliness.
By now, if he still didn’t understand Jessica’s actions, then he truly would be a fool.
Jessica wanted to reconcile, to get back together, to make changes, and was trying hard to salvage their relationship.
Chris was not a hard–hearted man, he indeed had feelings stirring inside.
But Michael was still a thorn in his heart.
After pondering for a moment, he took a deep breath.
Since that was the case, he decided to take things step by step.
If he wasn’t mistaken, it was Jessica who was now pursuing him.
So the one who should be troubled wasn’t him–but Michael.
Sophie was indeed sent to an overseas academy.
She cried and yelled, refusing to go, but it was useless.
This time, Jessica was determined to teach her a lesson and had someone supervise her onto the plane.
“Has Sophie left?”
Jessica signed a few pages, closed the document, and handed it to Shannon.
Shannon nodded, “Miss Sophie made a scene and refused to get on the plane no matter what. Before leaving, she called Mr. Hall, asking him to plead for her. After hearing whatever Mr. Hall said, Miss Sophie suddenly agreed, hung up, and boarded the plane immediately.”
Jessica paused, somewhat surprised.
“Is Michael at home? Have Jennifer send over the recording.”
“No.” Shannon shook her head.
“Recently, Mr. Hall has been taking Jordan out during the day and only returning in the afternoon.”
Taking Jordan out?
Jessica felt a little suspicious.
“Have someone check what Michael has been up to lately. Also, the woman Michael married, Wendy Shaw–track her whereabouts. Once I find her, I can uncover the Hall family’s secrets.”
“Understood.”

Shannon noticed Jessica was in a good mood and didn’t rush to leave.
“The day after tomorrow is the 50th wedding anniversary of the Chairman and his wife of Crimson Engineering. I’ll attend with Chris. Have someone prepare dresses and suits, deliver them to the company–we’ll go together.”
“Okay.”
Crimson Engineering was a rare leader in the chemical industry within the circle, and it was a state–owned enterprise.
The chairman and his wife had started the business together when they were young, and now they had reached their 50th wedding anniversary.
Back when she was still with Michael, they had also attended the chairman’s wife’s birthday party and had admired the young couple’s relationship.
She had even told Michael that they should be like the chairman and his wife of Crimson Engineering, being together from youth to old age.
Time had changed things–people around them had either changed or their hearts had changed.
Jessica opened a drawer, inside was a diamond necklace.
It was a birthday gift Michael had given her in their second year together, and she had kept it all along.
She used to wear it before their marriage, but later Chris also gave her a necklace.
Although she didn’t wear his, from that day on, she took off the necklace Michael had given her.
Loyalty to marriage was also something she had been taught, even if at the time she hadn’t yet fallen for Chris.
Now things were different,
She loved Chris.
Not just loyalty.
She pressed the intercom, connecting to the secretary’s office.
“Order a pair of rings–my size and Chris’s.”
