Sitting in the car, Jessica had her eyes closed. For once, she wasn’t frowning and even looked a little relaxed.
Lately, Chris had been quite well–behaved–eating and sleeping at home.
However, his luggage was still at the dormitory, and even when it came to sleeping, he insisted on staying in the guest room
alone.
He was only forced back to the master bedroom after Jessica casually remarked that Michael had once slept in the guest room, which disgusted him enough to leave.
Watching Chris stand dumbfounded at the guest room door before angrily turning to go back to the master bedroom, Jessica trad laughed at the doorway.
She had never noticed before how vivid and amusing this side of Chris could be.
So he did have a temper–he could get mad.
Compared to the way he used to silently endure everything with gentle compliance, this was far more interesting.
Shannon had been talking for quite a while. When she turned her head, she realized her boss wasn’t even listening–resting her head on one hand, smiling to herself for who knew what reason.
“I said “Shannon waved the documents in front of Jessica. The latter finally came back to her senses.
Work matters were settled, and light personal talk before a dinner meeting was a good way to relax.
“Chris’s been sleeping at home lately? Haven’t
seen you going to the hospital these past few days.”
Jessica nodded. “Yeah, he comes home after work. Still reluctant about cooking, but definitely better than before.”
“I told you, it’s not that Chris doesn’t have feelings for you. On the contrary, he has very deep feelings. For the past five years, it was you exhausting them.”
Jessica glanced at her phone.
There had been no chats between her and Chris recently.
Even if she sent him something, he’d reply with only a few dismissive words.
She actually found it kind of funny.
But then there was Michael.
It seemed Jordan had used Michael’s phone to message her, calling her “Mommy” and asking why the she hadn’t visited lately.
There was even a voice message.
Jessica tapped it, a bit slow to react.
Jordan’s childish voice called out, “Mommy.”
Shannon immediately frowned.
Jessica didn’t reply. She simply turned off the screen.
“I put Jennifer Bundred by Michael’s side. Didn’t you suspect the overseas business in recent years had been undercut by the Hall family?”

In the dirn light, Jessica’s lips curved slightly.
How could the CEO of the Wilder Group be some love–struck fool?
Even if she had loved Michael five years ago, she wouldn’t have been completely unguarded.

Back when she was with Michael, even though her mother disliked him, she never openly opposed the Hall family–for her sake.
But the Hall family, ungrateful as they were, took it as a green light
They assumed her mother had approved of the son–in–law and use the Wilder Group’s name to do quite a few shady things. After she inherited the company, Jessica had indeed still held some feelings for Michael.
But it wasn’t just because he was her first love.
More importantly, she had sensed that the Hall family, through Michael’s overseas marriage alliance, might be building a force of their own.
After Michael divorced and returned to the country, the woman he had married abroad declared bankruptcy not long after he left.
Her company was taken over by
a
small, unknown company.
There was no way that was a coincidence.-
“Jennifer just got back to Cheria and was used as a pawn–she’s not happy about it. She said that Jordan has a temper and throws tantrums at home. She wants to know how you plan to repay her.”
Jessica laughed and nodded. “Wasn’t she back in the country for some guy? I’ll try to find him for her. Even top hackers can’t locate him, I can just do my best.”
