Chapter 36
Chapter 36
Originally, after work yesterday, Shannon noticed Jessica was in a bad mood and suggested they go for a drink.
The smell of alcohol on Jessica was picked up while she was drinking with Shannon.
Under the influence of alcohol, her mind was filled with thoughts Chris.
After just a few drinks, Shannon coaxed her into going to find him
Everything that followed happened naturally–if it hadn’t been for Michael’s sudden phone call, perhaps by now…
Jessica held her forehead with a headache, feeling utterly exhausted, unable to speak for quite a while.
It was Shannon who finally reacted.
“I mentioned before that I would help Mr. Hall find a nanny. I’ve already started screening candidates. If someone’s there to take care of him and Jordan, you won’t need to keep monitoring things personally, and you can relax a little.”
Upon hearing that, Jessica lifted her head and glanced at Shannon
“Shannon, last night Chris and I…”
Shannon’s full name was Shannon Harvey. In private, when they weren’t working, Jessica called her by her name.
“There are still two meetings this afternoon. Since you’re already at the office, try not to overthink things. Let’s get the current tasks done first. Things are still in a stalemate between you and Mr Green. You can’t push too hard–he’s a man, after all, and he’s bound to have a temper. If you push too hard, it could backfire.”
After thinking for a moment, Jessica reached out and took the documents.
Judging from last night’s situation, Chris clearly still had feelings for her–it was just that he refused to admit it.
Chris had already failed twice in his attempt to go abroad. Feeling a bit dejected, he decided that if he couldn’t leave the country, he should at least focus on work.
His mentor had already made arrangements, but it was too late to apply to study abroad. He would just have to wait for another opportunity in the future.
On the phone, his mentor scolded him repeatedly, saying Jessica had already held him ack for five years–was she still going to hold him back now?
After a full day of work at the hospital, the busier Chris got, the more fulfilled he felt.
It was as if his capabilities had finally found an outlet, and he no longer needed to pace restlessly in that tiny apartment.
After work that day, he packed up, ready to return to the dormitory
That afternoon, he had thought that if he truly wasn’t going abroad, he should find a proper place to stay. The hospital dorms were for newly graduated interns, and it wasn’t ideal for him to occupy a spot.
During his lunch break, he had arranged to view a property with an agent at six.
He changed into casual clothes and checked the time on his way out. The last patient had taken longer than expected, so he was running late.
In a rush, he hurried out without even looking where he was going
Losing his footing, he stumbled forward in alarm.
“What’s the rush?”
Someone caught him firmly around the waist.

Looking down, he saw Jessica had run up to him–her hair was slightly messy.
“What are you…” Chris steadied himself and instinctively reached out to hold her.
“I came to pick you up for dinner. Why were you in such a hurry?”
Chris didn’t respond.
After last night, he had already sensed Jessica’s true feelings.
Whether Michael was back or not, Jessica clearly didn’t want a divorce.
What troubled Chris the most was his own feelings.

Even though he knew Jessica was still entangled with Michael, he couldn’t help but soften every time she tried to win him over. “Thanks, but I’ve got something to do,” said Chris, trying to stay calm. He politely pushed her away and headed for his car. Jessica frowned. “You’re off work–what else could you be rushing off to?”
“I have an appointment.”
“With who?”
Chris stopped in his tracks and turned to look at her. “Do I really need to repeat myself? We’re already divorced. I don’t owe you any explanation about who I’m meeting.‘
”
Hearing that, Jessica, who was already on high alert, lunged forward and forcefully shoved Chris toward his car.
