As an investor, it was understandable for Jessica to appear at the hospital. She sat in her exclusive office and specifically requested to see Chris.
“Chris, Ms. Wilder wants to see you.” Prof. Rane looked a little troubled. “She’s one of our hospital’s investors, and I heard her temper isn’t the best. Be careful when dealing with her.”
Chris put down the plan they had just finalized, his face full of helplessness.
He was the one who had the most direct experience with Jessica’s ad temper, after all. They had spent five years together, and he knew her well.
“Got it.”
He knocked on the office door, and a single word came from inside Chris prepared himself, but the moment the door opened, something flew toward his forehead and hit him. He couldn’t dodge in time, and blood immediately started trickling down from
his forehead.
He had known it would be like this, so he had purposely not asked anyone to guide him and went upstairs by himself.
The floor was empty, rarely visited by anyone. This was a separate floor for hospital management offices.
Apart from Jessica, no one else would be here. Everyone else was busy downstairs.
After a few seconds of silence, Chris entered and closed the door.
“Do you need something?”
When Jessica saw Chris like this, she was furious.
He had been hit but didn’t cry out in pain or complain, and blood was dripping from his forehead down to his cheek, his eyes starting to redden.
Usually, seeing Chris like this would make Jessica feel a sense of pity for him, but right now, all she could think about was Michael, covered in blood and hurt.
Compared to Michael, what was Chris’s situation?
“Chris, what do you have against me and Michael?” Jessica leaned forward slightly, one hand clenched into a fist on the table, and she hit it twice. “If you feel aggrieved, you can tell me. Why do you have to hurt Michael? He did nothing wrong, and he’s even trying to make excuses for you!”
Before Chris arrived, Jessica had received a call from Sophie, saying that Michael had woken up.
And Michael, on the other end of the line, urged Jessica to stay calm, saying that Chris was just momentarily upset. The injury wasn’t severe, and he asked her not to make things difficult for Chris because of him.
“I didn’t do anything wrong. I don’t need Michael to make excuses for me.” Chris stood across from the desk, still maintaining his unyielding posture. There was a faint glint of tears in his eyes, but he still held his head high. “I told you, I didn’t hurt Michael. I don’t need to explain myself.”
॥
“Then how did Michael get hurt? Was it his own doing?” Jessica slammed her hand on the table again, her voice rising. “Chris, your excuses are getting worse and worse! Are you saying that he almost lost his life just to frame you?”
Chris smiled faintly. “Anyone with a medical license could tell that Michael’s injury isn’t serious. He just nicked a blood vessel. He’s not that weak.”
“Chris! You’re not even repenting for your mistakes! How did you become like this?”
He didn’t want to explain, nor did he feel the need to. They were already divorced, and whether Jessica believed him didn’t matter anymore. If necessary, he could be taken to court. Being in prison would be better than staying here, facing her.

With that thought in mind, Chris turned to leave.
“Did I say you could leave?” Something else flew at him and hit hit hard in the spine. He staggered forward, grunting in pain.
The crystal ashtray rolled on the carpet before stopping by Chris’s feet.
Love and indifference were truly obvious. When Michael was hurt even a little, she was deeply distressed, but when it came to him, she could use something so heavy.
It was truly hilarious.
“If Michael wants to hold me responsible, let him sue me.” With that, Chris opened the door and left.
Soon after, the sound of things being thrown came from inside the room.
