Chapter 16
Lily’s POV
Nathan’s face went completely blank. The words hung in the air between us, as if suspended in time. His green eyes widened slightly, the only indication he’d heard me at
all.
God, why does he have to look at me like that? Like I’ve just pulled the pin on a grenade
and dropped it between us.
“I’m pregnant,” I repeated, a little louder this time, my heart hammering against my rib
cage.
Three months. Three months since that night–his hands on my hips, my back against the
mirrored wall, the way he’d growled my name like a prayer and a curse all at once.
“Three months?” he finally asked, his voice unnervingly calm.
I nodded, unable to form words as my throat constricted with fear. My hands instinctively
moved to my stomach, a protective gesture I hadn’t even realized I’d started doing.
He remembers. He has to. The way his fingers had dug into my skin, the way he’d-
“How long have you known?” he asked, his fingers tightening around the pen he was holding. The veins on the back of his hand stood out, and I caught myself staring.
Stop it. Stop remembering how those hands felt.
“About a week,” I admitted. “I didn’t come here for your money. I don’t need you to take care of the baby either. I just… I just thought you should know.”
Nathan remained silent, his jaw clenching and unclenching. I watched his knuckles turn white as he gripped the edge of his desk, and I prepared myself for an explosion. I’d seen his temper, his need for control.
Control. That’s what he’d always had–over the club, over me, over the way my body had arched against his like it belonged to him.
My eyes darted to the door, calculating how quickly I could escape if needed.

Chapter 16
“You’re what?” he finally asked, rising slowly from his chair. “Are you out of your mind?”
He came around the desk, and I instinctively backed away until I felt the cold wall behind
- me. My hands flew to my belly, shielding our unborn child.
But the explosion never came. Instead, his voice dropped to a dangerous whisper.
“You’re carrying my child, and you’re telling me you don’t want me involved? Are you out of your mind? What the hell is wrong with you?”
I blinked, confused by his reaction. This wasn’t what I’d expected at all.
I expected rage. Disbelief. Not this—this possessive fury, like the idea of me keeping his child from him was a personal insult.
“I’m sorry,” I whispered. “I just… I didn’t think you’d want a baby. I’m sorry.”
Something shifted in his expression then–a dawning realization that seemed to hit him.
like a physical blow.
“I’m going to be a father?” he breathed, more to himself than to me.
I nodded again, watching the emotions play across his face–worry, joy, confusion, fear- all battling for dominance.
He looks… undone. The great Nathan Sullivan, heir to the Sullivan empire, unraveled by
three words: I’m pregnant.
“Are you okay?” he asked suddenly. “The baby–is everything… are you both okay? Have
you seen a doctor?”
“I’m fine. Everything’s normal so far,” I said, surprised by his concern. “I’ve been to the
clinic once.”
Nathan ran a hand through his perfectly styled hair, messing it up in a way that made him. look more human, less like the untouchable crime boss I knew him to be.
God, even now, with his hair disheveled and his tie slightly crooked, he’s unfairly beautiful. It should be illegal to look like that while threatening to upend my entire life.
“You’re fired,” he declared abruptly.

“What?”
“You absolutely cannot work at Skyline anymore.” His tone left no room for argument.
