Chapter 15
Lily’s POV
Today was the day.
The biting cold wind cut through my cheeks as I tightened my coat, hands clutching the leather jacket Nathan had given me the last time he dropped me home. Taking a deep
breath, I stood in front of the Skyline nightclub’s main entrance, instead of using the back entrance I was familiar with as a staff member. Entering through the front door would help me avoid encountering other employees, steering clear of speculations and gossip. I pressed the doorbell, waiting, feeling like my heartbeat was loud enough to echo down
the street.
To be honest, I had no expectations at all, so I prepared for the worst. I didn’t, I didn’t
want his money, I just wanted him to know, that’s all.
The door opened, and William stood there. He was dressed in a perfectly tailored suit,
looking like he had just stepped out of a business magazine cover. When he saw me, a hint of disdain flickered in his eyes. I felt very uncomfortable being stared at by him.
“We’re not open for business yet,” he said coldly, ready to close the door.
“It’s me, Lily!” I hurriedly spoke.
William frowned, pretending to think. “Lily who?”
I felt embarrassed. “Lily Reed?”
His gaze scanned me from head to toe, making me feel like I was being X–rayed. “Oh, the dancing girl. The system shows you called in sick, why are you here today?”
Since when did they start following procedures? They were the mob.
‘I need to tell Nathan something,” I replied firmly, trying to conceal the trembling in my voice.
Just then, Derek’s voice came from behind, “Don’t bully this poor girl, William. It’s freezing outside, no time for your stupid games.”

Derek was friendlier than his brother, at least on the surface. He smiled at me, his eyes carrying an unreadable glint.
William reluctantly opened the door to let me in. The nightclub looked completely different in the morning, no music, no flashing lights, no drunken guests. The left entrance led to the casino area, while the right led to the dance floor, both unusually quiet at this hour.
The receptionist at the front desk smiled at me, but her eyes betrayed unease, as if she recognized who I was. I quickly walked past her, heading for the stairs and ascending to
the notorious second floor.
As I reached the second floor, memories flooded back like a tidal wave. This was my fifth
time in this area. The first time was six months ago when Richard interviewed me personally; the second was the night that changed everything, when Nathan brought me to his office; the third was when I was chosen to serve VIP room guests; the fourth was
when I asked Derek to switch me to work at the bar.
Now was the fifth time, to tell Nathan I was pregnant with his child.
I stood outside his office door, fingers clutching the leather jacket, taking small steps to delay time until I reached my destination. I had an urge to turn back, almost panicking,
but I realized I couldn’t. All I had to do was tell him, and then I would be free.
“I can do this, I can do this,” I whispered to myself, taking a deep breath.
Suddenly, Nathan’s voice came through the speakers above the door, “Are you chatting
with the door?”
I looked up at the surveillance camera, my cheeks burning with embarrassment. I gently pushed open the door, seeing Nathan sitting behind his large desk, surrounded by files, Did these people really do paperwork? He was dressed formally today, the tie perfectly
knotted, looking more threatening and handsome than usual.
“Lily,” he nodded coolly, “What’s the matter?
“I have something important to tell you,” my voice barely above a whisper.
He leaned back in his chair, sharp green eyes scrutinizing me, ‘Speak, I’m busy.”

He looked into my eyes, waiting for me to speak, but I faltered, not knowing what to say.
“Remember when I was here three months ago?” I blurted out suddenly.
“Three months ago?” he raised an eyebrow, a smile playing at his lips, “Of course, you want to come back for another round?”
My face burned even hotter, “No, no! I just… wanted to return this jacket to you.”
Nathan rolled his eyes, looking at the jacket in my hands. “You came all the way here just
to return one of my many jackets? Keep it!” he waved his hand impatiently, “It’s no use to
me.”
“But this is an expensive jacket,” I started to ramble, “This brand of leather jacket costs at least a few hundred dollars, I checked, even second–hand ones are valuable…”
“Lily,” Nathan cut me off, his voice carrying a warning, “Stop talking about that damn jacket. Speak directly, I don’t have time to waste.”
I took a deep breath, feeling like the world was spinning. This was my last chance, whatever the outcome, I had to say it.
“It’s about something else,” I said softly. My heart raced out of control, my palms starting to twitch, my head spinning. It was time now. I took a deep breath, summoning all my courage, even as it escaped my mouth.
“I’m pregnant,” I whispered the words, almost inaudible.
