The pool water was freezing cold, he could hardly believe she’d just shoved him like that, and with so much strength as well. That he’d not only let go of her but stumbled backwards, there had been no way to save himself. The minute his foot had no solid ground beneath it, he knew he was going to end up in the pool

It wasn’t even the shallow end of the pool where he could reach, either, got fully submerged, and he had no choice but to swim to the stairs on the other side of the pool to get himself out. In summer, he wouldn’t have minded so very much, but it was winter and cold

A great first impression he was making on her, in her coming here, though as he’d surfaced she let him know exactly why she’d shoved him away from her, not Marrin. She didn’t have her memories back at all. That was his own mistake, seeing her down there, knowing she was here, he’d stupidly fallen into the belief that she remembered everything

Not so much, though she watched him run a hand through his hair, much the same way Marrin always would. A pity he wasn’t shirtless, he thought to himself, but then shook that off; not Marrin. He reminded himself and apologised to her right away. There was nothing else he could do

The boys trailed him all the way to the back of the house, and he stopped to take his shoes and wet socks rest of his clothes, as he would normally do if they weren’t there, to off. He couldn’t really do that with

stop water from being tracked through the house. That was inappropriate. Even though they were his children, they didn’t know him well enough for that

This suit was going to be completely ruined by the chlorine in the pool’s water. They were all tailormade for him from BALANI custom suits Houston, and this was currently one of his favourite suits as well. He’d have to have another made, he could only imagine

He walked through the house and the boys were talking nonstop about the house and wanting to watch a movie in the theater room, they trailed him all the way up the stairs and into the master bedroom. Where they climbed right up onto that kingsized bed and bounced on it

He grabbed two towels from the bathroom and walked back over to them. Why don’t you go and clean up the water I trailed through the house while I have a shower and get changed. He told them, though a part of him had wanted to state because your mother pushed me into the pool. He didn’t, he’d seen that look downstairs, it was her daring him to state that to the boys, and he knew she was going to refute it

They also didn’t know him all that well and would likely believe her over him. That made him wonder if it had been her plan all along. She’d not looked startled at seeing him, he realised, just reacted to him touching her. Not something he could really blame her for. He probably shouldn’t have done that. Maybe he might not have ended up in the pool if he’d not grabbed her and turned her around to face him. But it had been pure instinct at seeing her here. If she’d not reacted, he’d likely have pulled her right into his chest and hugged her right to

him

The boys were now kind of just staring at him, and then they looked at the towels, for a moment and then nodded and took them from him and headed off. He had a feeling Marilyn did everything for them, that they probably didn’t have chores, Either that or they were used to getting their own way, and being wherever they wanted to

He just didn’t think walking around half naked after he got out of the shower, with them in the room with hàn was a good idea. They didn’t know him and though he was their dad, Marilyn might not like it. She could see It as overstepping and Inappropriate. If they’d all been swimming though, and walking about in board short It wouldn’t be an issue, but they were not

He showered and walked into the walkin and sighed as he looked at it. 70% of it was Marrin’s belongings, and he knew Denise kept everything in here clean and dustfree. This bedroom had rules regarding the cleaning of it: It was the priority in case Marrin had ever come home. He’d wanted her to know he’d not changed a thing, that all her belongings were still here waiting for her

He wondered if Marilyn had come up here already and looked about. He pulled clean pants and a shirt from the racks and pulled on shoes and socks. Thankfully, when he’d realised she and the boys were here, he’d not only put that photo album down but his phone as well. They were still on the foyer table and hadn’t been

ruined

He roughly dried his hair and ran a comb through it, before heading downstairs to collect his phone, wondering where her car was. He could see the twins pushing towels along the floor, running along laughing about they could beat the other one, had turned it into a game of some sort. Competitive, he thought, and turned to head for the internal door to the garage. He flipped the light switch and there was her car parked next to Marrin’s old car

He heard the boys yelling out for back just like any dad would, I’m coming boys. And headed off to where they were. They held the towels up to him, and he took them, strolled them down to the laundry and put them in the washing basket to be laundered tomorrow

3 m Dad?and smiled. It was a nice thing to hear, and he called out right

Then he stated, Now whose idea was it to trick me into not knowing you were coming here? I’m sorry boys, I still haven’t gotten the hang of who is who,he stated honestly, he couldn’t tell them apart at all. That was something that would take time and he knew it

They grinned up at him, and he knew why. They liked that no one could do that. I’m Callum, and it was mum’s idea. She said it would be a nice surprise, for us, to give you for Christmas,Callum told him

A reward for your good behaviour,Vincente smiled at him, The best present we could give you, is it?he

asked

Calvin smiled down at the two of them and hunkered down. It is the very best present, and it was very sneakily done. Tricking me to think the phone had been shipped to your grandma’s.”

They both laughed at him, and he saw their eyes so very green with amusement, changed colours just like his did with his mood. Mum’s got a devious writer’s brain,Callum stated, It’s what she always says.”

That it appears she does. Come here and give me a hug boys.He smiled at them

They did, just stepped over to him and hugged him and he them I missed you boys.” He told them and he had. Would likely miss them every moment they were apart. How is your mum, what does she remember?he asked, wondering if they would tell him anything about her

She remembered some things about the house. As we walked about it earlier, she got some memories back,Callum told him

I think she’ll get them all back soon.Vincent smiled at him, Maybe she’ll remember you too.”

I can only hope so, boys.” He nodded. Come on, let’s go and see her.” They all headed out to the guest house, and he wondered why she had made herself at home out there, when she had a bedroom in this house. No, he reminded himself, Marilyn didn’t have a bedroom here, but there were plenty of other rooms she could stay in, the boys too

She was just sitting on the couch in the guest house, drinking a cup of coffee with her laptop in front of her, working already, he wondered? She also admitted to him about recalling a few things, being here was going to be good for her. The only other thing that could help her to recover who she was, he thought, was him being here

She didn’t look too happy about that, but the boys he noted were on his side, and she caved to them. Those

boys were going to help him, and he knew it. They wanted their parents to be together as much as he did, he

realised at that moment. So he would stay here with them, though even as he thought about that, the boysgifts weren’t with him. He was going to have to head into the city to collect them. He looked at his watch. It was only midafternoon, but it would be a twohour drive to Houston and back, and he’d have to stop at the apartment to pack some clothes and go to the airstrip to get their gifts

Marilyn, boys,he gained their attention. I wasn’t planning on staying here. I’ll have to go into the city, to my apartment and get some things. I’ll also have to make a trip to my plane. The boysChristmas presents are on it. Seeing as I was leaving for Virginia in the morning, I didn’t take them off it.”

Just go,Marilyn stated. Don’t mind us.”

Can we go with you, see your plane?Callum was tugging at his sleeve

He smiled down at his son. He would like that, but it was probably too soon and those scooters weren’t wrapped either. He’d been going to do it at the hotel tomorrow. His eyes moved to Marilyn, and she was frowning slightly

Boys, perhaps another time, you stay here with your mother. It’s not a short trip, an hour each way, and another 40 minutes to the airstrip. It’ll be dinner time by the time I get back, so how about I pick something up, and we can all eat together?”

Burgers and fries. The boys yelled up at him

Sure.He smiled and looked at Marilyn. Is that okay with you?”

It’s fine, they’ll want extra fries, and chocolate milkshakes, she nodded

You?he asked

Where are you going to get them from?she asked in return

The surf and turf down the road?he commented

Alright, I will look it up and text you what we want, make it a bit easier for you.She nodded

He smiled at her and nodded, got himself an escort to his car by the boys, and they waved him goodbye, it was a really nice feeling to hear them yell out Don’t be long dad.”
