Chapter 10 From the Bottom of My Heart
Eleanor said, “Your family’s not exactly well–off, and here you are spending money like this. My mom’s just being taken in by Kenneth right now. As long as I have a good talk with her and tell her what a great guy you are, she won’t be mad at you anymore.
“How much did you pay for this? I’ll transfer the money to you.”
Lucas would never actually take her money.
He quickly waved his hand. “Eleanor, this is from the bottom of my
heart. You guys have helped me out so much. This little thing is
just a token of my appreciation, and it’s not that expensive. If you
reimburse me, it’d be really awkward for me.”
As Lucas was speaking, he dried the water off his face and then
changed the subject.
“Come on, don’t think too much about it. Since I could afford to
buy it, I’m okay with it. Even though my family isn’t rich, I know
how to pay back people’s kindness!”
Hearing that, Eleanor didn’t insist anymore. She nodded and accepted the gift.
“Don’t rush to apologize. My mom’s not at home today. There’s a

problem with a project out of town, so she went there to sort it
out. But don’t take what happened yesterday to heart. She has at
misunderstanding about you, but we know what kind of person
you are. Just stop worrying about it, and let’s go watch the game
first.”
“Yeah, it’s all Kenneth’s fault. I don’t know when he turned into
such a liar and even learned to put on an act. If he keeps being like this, I really don’t want to play with him anymore,” Victoria chimed
- in.
She sat back in her seat. Just mentioning Kenneth made her feel
annoyed.
Lucas lowered his eyes, and it was hard to tell what he was
thinking.
“Maybe Kenneth’s just mad at me. He’d been wanting those
shoes for ages, but Victoria gave them to me. He’s probably still
upset. It’s okay. Once he calms down, we’ll still be good friends.”
Victoria was as straightforward as they came.
When she heard Lucas still sticking up for Kenneth, she felt it
was a raw deal for him. “You’re still taking his side? He faked a
heart attack to set you up yesterday, and here you are singing his
praises. We’ve seen what he’s really like. You’re the only one who
still remembers how he helped you before and keeps letting him

take advantage of you.”

As Victoria ranted on, the memory of Kenneth’s phony act from
the day before came flooding back, and her temper flared up all
over again.
Lucas listened quietly as Victoria stuck up for him, and every now and then, he’d throw in a few words to fuel the fire. By the time the three of them reached the sports arena, the game had just kicked off.
They quickly found their seats and plopped down. Eleanor and
Victoria didn’t notice that diagonally across the arena, Kenneth
was also there to catch the game.
One of the teams in this match was the star–studded Zeal Sabers,
a team Kenneth had been a die–hard fan of since high school.
This time, the team was playing in Houston, and he’d snagged the
prime front–row seats ages ago.
Originally, he’d also bought the seats around him, all excited
about coming to the game with Eleanor and the gang. But now,
he’d changed his mind.
The game got off to a thrilling start. Kenneth was engrossed in it,
completely oblivious to Lucas‘ gaze.

Victoria waved her hand in front of Lucas‘ eyes, Jolting him back to
reality. He looked a bit disoriented, like he’d just woken up from a
daydream.
“What’s going on?” he asked, still a bit groggy.
“Eleanor was trying to get your attention just now. What were you
so focused on outside the arena?”
Victoria followed the direction Lucas had been looking and
spotted Kenneth. Her expression changed slightly, and she gave
Eleanor’s sleeve a little tug.
“Eleanor, look!”
Eleanor turned to where Victoria was pointing. There sat Kenneth,
in his seat, whooping and hollering for the teams on the field.
Victoria had that “I told you so” look on her face.
“Last night, you said I might’ve misjudged him. But come on! A guy who supposedly had a heart–condition and had an attack
yesterday is here today, all pumped up watching the game!”
The more Victoria thought about it, the angrier she got, and her
face turned red with fury.
Yesterday, it was all Kenneth’s phony act that got Lucas and me

chewed out and misunderstood by Harriet.
And here he is, having a grand time at the game instead.
Eleanor was also a bit miffed. If she’d still felt a twinge of guilt
towards Kenneth yesterday, that little bit of guilt had completely
vanished now.
“Maybe it’s a misunderstanding. Maybe Kenneth really was sick. But when he heard we were coming to the game, he rushed over.
After all, we’re still friends. He must have realized his mistake, but
it’s a bit awkward for him to apologize directly. How about we just forgive him?”
Lucas was spouting nonsense with such conviction that it almost
sounded reasonable.
Victoria let out a scoff and crossed her arms, eyeing Kenneth.
“If he makes a mistake, he should apologize. Sneaking here to watch the game? What kind of apology is that?”
Eleanor didn’t say a word, but her expression showed she agreed
with Victoria.
What they’d both forgotten was that one of the teams playing was
Zeal Sabers, a team Kenneth had loved since high school and had
mentioned to them several times.

Now their attention had been completely diverted by Lucas, and they even thought he’d followed them here secretly.
Victoria was the one with a hair–trigger temper. When Lucas goaded her, she didn’t waste a second; she was hell–bent on confronting Kenneth.
I couldn’t care less about an apology. I’m not that small–minded.
But Kenneth has to clear the air about yesterday in front of Harriet. Lucas and I can’t just take this unjust treatment lying down!
Before Eleanor could even blink or reach out to stop her, Victoria
had charged up to Kenneth and yanked the cheering stick right
out of his hand.
Kenneth was in a world of his own, completely enthralled by the game. It was his first time watching the Zeal Sabers live, and he was so into it that he didn’t have a clue Victoria was approaching.
It was only when his cheering stick was snatched away that he was abruptly pulled out of his reverie.
He stared at Victoria like a deer in the headlights for a moment
before slowly regaining his wits.
Irritation bubbled up inside him, and his eyes practically screamed

Impatience.
He demanded, “What are you doing here?”
Kenneth had zero interest in chatting with Victoria. This game. could be his last shot at seeing the Zeal Sabers play.
After this match, the team’s star player was hanging up his boots, and it felt like the end of an era for the Zeal Sabers and, in a way, the end of his youth.
Victoria was caught off guard by Kenneth’s cold shoulder and flew off the handle right away.
“Are you seriously asking me that? You followed us here, and now you’re acting like you’re innocent?”
Victoria unceremoniously chucked the cheering stick onto the ground and then planted herself right in front of Kenneth, completely blocking his view.
Not only that, she also ticked off the people sitting around them.
“Hey, what’s the deal here? Can you guys just let us watch the game in peace? Go have your fight somewhere else!” a guy
grumbled.
Kenneth didn’t want to cause a ruckus for the others, and his own

temper flared up, too.
“Have you guys already forgotten? The Zeal Sabers is my all–time favorite team. I’ve told you about it a million times. If you’ve
really forgotten, whatever. But could you at least stop ruining my chance to enjoy the game?”
Kenneth’s tone was dead serious, and Victoria was left completely
stunned.
She just stood there, looking like a fool, as the people around
them muttered their discontent. Kenneth had no other option but
to tug her to the side.
That was the final straw for Eleanor and Lucas. They got up from
their seats and made their way over to Kenneth.
“Kenneth, what on earth do you think you’re doing!” Eleanor said icily, propping Victoria up and raising her voice.
