When did this happen?
The scene of the day I came home with a pale face and bloodied clothes came flashing in Sanders‘ mind, there were also those countless missed calls and unread texts from my phone.
He stepped toward Sadie with the murderous glint in his eyes, which was dulled by the glaring light. The moment Sadie declared excitedly, “I do,” loudly, his hands closed around her neck violently.
Everyone present was startled by this sudden turn of events.
“You said Alice was faking the miscarriage.” His voice was laced with danger. “Then how the hell do you explain this document?”
Sadie clawed her way free from Declan’s grip. Gasping for air, tears welled in her eyes, as she sobbed, “It … it must be fake! That has to be a fake report!”
She grabbed Declan’s pant leg, ignoring the strange glances from those around her.
“Declan, don’t let her affect the progress of our wedding,” Sadie pleaded.
“This wedding belongs to me and Alice.” Declan’s voice echoed through the entire banquet hall. “My bride will only ever be her.”
After saying that, he ignored everyone at the wedding and drove straight back home.
Taking a deep breath at the door for two seconds, Declan went in and shouted my name, but he didn’t get any response. In the past, just the sound of the door opening would make me come to the door. The unease in his heart grew.
As he passed the walk–in closet, he came to a sudden stop. His pupils shrank as he stared into the empty wardrobe.
It was not until he searched meticulously around the house that he suddenly realized everything that belonged to me had gone.
Declan tried to call me, but the line was always busy.
The festive lapel flowers on his body now looked completely out of place in the cold,
empty space.
No! Alice will never leave him!
Declan kept convincing himself. After all, he and Alice had been in love for seven years. She had stood by him without complaint during the lowest point of his life.
Now that he was back on top in the business world, how could Alice just walk away? Wasn’t the seven years of hard work a waste?
No. Alice would not do that.
Ignoring all the messages bombarding his phone about the wedding, Declan called his assistant, “You have twenty–four hours to find Alice. I also want a full report on everyone she saw and everything she did this past week.”

“Don’t forget… I want the authenticity of that miscarriage report verified,” he added.
Once the call ended, he slumped onto the couch. His mind drifted back to the day when he and Alice had just lived in this house.
Alice danced and talked about things she would buy for the house and in the end, slowly, the house became cozy. Now… the house became empty and lifeless…
I have to get Alice back!
A knock at the door made him spring to his feet with an excited face. However, the moment he saw who it was, the hope drained from his face.
It was Sadie. The train of her wedding dress had been dirtied and her makeup streaked across her face.
She yelled angrily, “Declan, how dare you humiliate me like this? Seven years ago, you even knelt and begged me not to leave you! Now, when I finally agree to come back … you leave me standing alone in that banquet?”
Just after Sadie let out her rage, her eyes went to Declan’s eyes, but the cold indifference in
there made her shiver.
Just then, his phone rang. His assistant’s voice came through the receiver. “Mr. Harrison, we found out that Miss Sanders was involved in a car accident some time ago.”
Then he continued, “The main car responsible for the car accident is registered under Miss
Rockwood’s name.”
“I just wanted to scare her a little!” Sadie mumbled. “I didn’t think she’d actually lose the baby….”
She kept repeating those two sentences while curling into a corner of the room.
After hanging up, Declan demanded angrily, “Sadie, tell me everything about the car
accident!”
He was like a lion in rage, yet Sadie immediately found a way to calm him. “I know where Alice is,” she said. “Do you want to see her?”
In the bar, the lights were dazzling.
“How about it? Not bad for a place I owned, right?” asked Corrie Hawthorn asked as she plopped down beside me.
I clinked glasses with her. “I haven’t been here for ten years. This place has changed so much, I barely recognize it.”
Just as the alcohol was about to enter my lips, a hand suddenly snatched the glass away.
I turned around and saw Declan’s face right in front of me with a mocking sneer on it.
