Chapter 7
Life abroad was simple and fulfilling. The only downside was probably that it was way too
quiet.
Whenever I felt homesick, I’d browse the live streaming app.
I never expected to come across a familiar face that day.
“Come on, guys! Don’t miss out. Only 10 dollars with free shipping!”
Coco was actually doing a live sales stream.
a
Considering she’d always marketed herself as a socialite ever since getting with Jasper, this was a shock. Her previous streams were all about flaunting her luxurious lifestyle; rarely did she stoop to selling anything. But now, she’d started streaming again, and Jasper was sitting right beside her!
The stream was advertised as the debut of a scion, which attracted a lot of young women.
After all, Jasper still had some recognition back in Amveris.
But no amount of beauty filters could hide his exhaustion. He looked painfully out of place, stiff and awkward in front of the camera. Coco kept nudging him with her elbow, and only then did he manage to mumble a few words, barely louder than a whisper.
The comments kept rolling in during the live stream.
“Smile for us, Mr. Swanson!”
“What’s with the long face? Do you want us to buy something or not?”
“Exactly, who do you think you are? Who’s going to buy anything if you’re making that grumpy face?”
The comments became nastier by the minute, and Jasper’s expression stiffened.
I couldn’t help but laugh. Who would’ve thought the scion of the Swanson family would fall

From what I’d heard, ever since that disaster, Jasper had been erased from the high society in Amveris. Even his company’s products were barely selling anymore.
My mother called to gossip with me, saying, “It’s a good thing you came to your senses and saw him for who he really is, Wynne! Can you believe he actually tried to force his own mother to remarry just to save his company? What kind of person does that?”
Jasper’s father, Robert Swanson, had started a business with my father years ago. Unfortunately, he passed away young.
a
After his passing, my father always tried to look out for his family. That was partly why they arranged my engagement to Jasper.
It wasn’t easy for Valerie to raise Jasper on her own, and it was even harder for her to
protect the inheritance Robert left behind. If not for Jasper having some talent, the
Swanson name would have vanished from Amveris long ago.
“Coco is so greedy!” My mother grumbled. “Not only did she have Jasper transfer several
properties to her name, but even continued to live lavishly when the Swanson family fell on
hard times.
“With their current finances, how can they possibly afford that? So, now Jasper’s set his sights on his own mother.”
Coming back to the moment and noting Coco’s effort, I couldn’t help but donate 150 dollars to her stream. Delighted, she called out, “Thank you so much for the donation, ‘Jasper’s
Little Follower‘!”
As soon as her words fell, Jasper’s head snapped up, and his face paled. He must have
realized it was me.
I cringed. I’d completely forgotten this was an old account I’d registered back then, and that I hadn’t changed the username. Oh well, he should be ashamed of himself!
