“That will be up to the Council,” he says, running his fingers through my hair in the way that helps to calm me. I feel his warm lips press against my forehead.
“How many others were involved?” I ask, staying tucked against him. His clean, masculine scent soothes me almost as much as his soft, deep voice and his strong arms around me.
“Nancy wasn’t sure, but she didn’t think anyone else in the hospital was involved since she was the one injecting the silver into your father‘ s IV,” he says.
“She also didn’t know about the money, Enya,” Shane says.
I lift my head and look at my brother. Sebastiana has her arm around his shoulder, and it looks like he might have had his head on her shoulder as well.
“Is that important?” I ask, looking at Christian.
“It means that Dorian probably lied to her about taking her as a Luna, but it also means that there are most likely other individuals involved in the treachery against your parents. I still need to do more research, but I’m guessing at least one money trail will lead to the pack who attacked your pack. I can’t think of a reason that a pack would attack yours except for money. Your pack is wealthy, but not enough for a pack to risk losing their warriors in a battle,” Christian says.
“Unless they were paid,” Shane says.
“Exactly.”

“So, at least part of that missing money went to the pack who attacked us? Will they be held accountable for their role in this?” I ask.
“It’s not likely, but again, that will be up to the Council. Pack wars happen for many reasons and killing an Alpha during a pack war isn’t against our laws,” Christian says.
“I hate them. They did this for money. They ruined my life for money,” I growl.
He presses his lips to my forehead again. “I know. But the people responsible for the attack, the people who instigated the attack are in this pack and those people will pay.”
I lean my head against his chest again. “What now?”
“Now, we follow the money. We prove that Dorian did what we know he did. We see if the money trail leads us to anyone else and let the Council know everything we know,” Christian says.
“And this is why I need you to be careful, Enya,” he murmurs softly. “Until we know who is responsible, you and Shane are both at risk. I can guess that Dorian’s brother was part of this and that Corey was part of this as well, but until we know for sure that we have everyone, you are at risk. I need you to be careful and I need you to stay alert.”
I nod against his chest.
“I hate knowing that my father was suffering and we didn’t do anything to help him,” I say, my voice breaking again.
“Do you want to go for a run? Let your wolf burn off this energy?” I hear Sebastiana asks quietly.
“Yes,” Shane says, his voice sounding as raw as I feel.

I look over as they get up off the loveseat.
“Be careful you two. Keep your eyes and ears open and let me know if anything happens. Anyone who knew what Dorian was doing will realize that we’ve at least figured out Nancy’s part in this. They’ll know that we’re on the hunt. Desperate people take desperate measures to keep their secrets. Do not take chances,” Christian says.
Shane nods as he and Sebastiana walk out of the room.
