I love interviewing men like this. Men who believe that they are the smartest people in the room because they underestimate others who they feel are inferior. Dorian has decided that Enya and I are stupid because we’re women and Shane is stupid because he’s young. In fact, there’s only one stupid person in this room and I’m looking at him.
“You have no idea why the pack was attacked?” I ask.
He shrugs negligently. “How should I know?”
I frown as if I’m confused. “You WERE the Beta of this pack, right? Second in command? And you don’t know enough about your own pack to know why you were attacked?” I ask.
I watch the sneer grow on his face at my words. That’s right Dorian, I‘ m implying that you’re stupid.
I watch the sneer turn to mockery. “Probably because Alpha Colin was weak.”
His target hits home and Shane snarls. “He was not!”
I reach out and wrap my hand around his wrist. I don’t break eye contact with Dorian, but I need Shane to settle. I knew it was a risk bringing him in here. He’s young and still dealing with a lot of emotions from his parents‘ deaths. Thankfully, he responds to my non- verbal cue.

“He is. And one would think that a Beta, a second–in–command, might have paid more attention to his Alpha’s injuries,” I say, once again questioning his abilities as a Beta.
“He said he was fine,” he snaps at me.
“But he wasn’t, was he? Are you mated, Dorian?” I ask, switching gears quickly. Interrogation 101, keep them on their toes and switch topics often to make them trip up.
He pulls his shirt away from his neck. No mark.
“Have you found your mate?” I ask him.

I give him my best fake smile. “Are you dating anyone?” I ask again as if he didn’t try to take over the conversation.

“I want answers,” I say as if this is the most obvious thing in the world. “You were the Beta of this pack. The pack was attacked, and no one seems to know why.”
