After that, she started coming to me again. There’s something about the dark of night, the quiet that comes as the pack settles, that makes both Enya and Shane’s emotions come to the surface.
I’m thankful when Friday arrives and I know my family with be here. Sebastiana will give us a welcome break from reality and my parents will help to give me some perspective.
“What if they hate us?” Shane asks as we stand outside the packhouse waiting for my family to drive from the guard gate.
“They won’t,” I say confidently.
“Are you sure?” Enya asks. She uses the opportunity to reach out and touch my arm.
“I’m positive,” I say, maintaining eye contact with her which should tell her that she needs to remove her hand from my arm, but as is the new norm, she doesn’t heed the non–verbal warning.
She does, however, drop her hand when the car pulls up with my family in it.
I can’t stop the smile that spreads across my face. I love my family. They are the best.
My mother steps out first, her eyes tracking to Shane, ther nya before finally falling on me.
“Hello, Christian,” she says warmly.
“Hello, mother,” I say, walking to her and pulling her into a hug.

“I’m glad you’re here,” I say softly.
“Who do I need to focus on?” she asks, just as softly.
“Enya,” I tell her, knowing my mother will help Enya to gain some confidence and hopefully get her to start thinking seriously about the Academy.
“I’m on it,” she says before releasing me.
“Christian! I hope this pack is fun! Dad made me come, saying you needed help stabilizing this pack,” Sebastiana says.
“Is that what dad said?” I ask her.
“Well, not in so many words, but you know how he is,” she says, hugging me tightly.
“I’ve missed you too,” I say to her, making her grunt.
“Who’s the hottie?” she says, without trying to be quiet.
“Oh, that’s Enya,” I say, intentionally mistaking what she means.
“Yeah, she’s hot too. She could totally make me switch teams,” my sister says. I should have known not to try and tease her. She’s better at it than I am.
“Sebastiana, please be try to behave while we’re here,” my father says, as if dealing with my sister has exhausted him. It probably has
“Yes, dad,” she says, rolling her eyes when my father and mother aren’t looking.
“Hey, I’m Sebastiana,” she says, walking up to Shane.
“Alpha Shane,” he says, introducing himself while my mother
introduces herself to Enya.
I walk around the car, meeting my father at the back.
“How are you doing, son?” he asks pulling me into a hug.
“Better now that you’re here. I could use a whiskey talk tonight,” I say
“Consider it done,” he says.
Ma
“So, are you going to show me this packhouse or what?” Sebastiana asks.
I turn and see that Shane is already looking lambasted by my sister.
“Sebastiana …” my father and I say at the same time.
She spins around and looks at us. “What? It’s his packhouse, right? You’re just here temporarily, right Christian?” she asks.
“Yes, but…” I begin.
“Yes, well, show me what you’ve got,” she says, linking her arm in Shane’s and practically dragging him into the packhouse.
‘Are you okay. I can drag her back out here,‘ I ask him in the mind link.
‘I’m … I’m good,” Shane says, stuttering a bit. It’s probably because Sebastiana doesn’t shut up and she railroads anyone in her path.
