I search his face, finding nothing.
“Was he responsible for killing my father?”
“That’s what we’re going to find out.”
“Why?” I ask him.
“We’ll figure that out too, but I’m guessing it was about power. If I had to guess, Dorian offered him a position in the pack. If not Beta, then probably Gamma. I’m guessing that Steven was offered the Beta position, since he’s Dorian’s brother.”
I set the glass down and scrub my hands over my face. “You’re saying that the attack, my father’s death, it was orchestrated? That our pack members set it up?”
“I’m saying it’s a possibility.
I nod, thinking about how Enya will be devastated if she finds out.
“Don’t say anything to Enya, not until we know for sure.”
“Alright,” he says, sitting back. “We can’t do any more tonight. Do you want to talk it through?”
“No, I think I’m done for the day. Is it okay if we skip our ch tonight?”
“Of course. If you need me, you know where to find me.”
I head upstairs to my room, thinking through how much has occurred
Chapter 33
in the couple of days since Christian has arrived. Then, a horrible thought occurs to me.
If Christian wasn’t here, would Dorian and his group of rebels have killed me and Enya to get what they want?
The answer does not make it easy for me to sleep.
Christian
After Shane leaves, I send an email to the Council letting them know that I killed a warrior who attempted to attack Shane and that I have concerns that Alpha Colin and Luna Ciara might not have died accidentally.
“Please keep us informed and let us know if there is anything you need from us,” came the instant reply.
I didn’t know the Council worked this late, but I’m glad they do. I’m very concerned about who attacked this pack and why.
I begin making a list of everything I need to accomplish. Now, besides having to ensure that the pack is stabilized, I need to figure out if Beta Dorian or someone else was involved in the deaths of the leaders of this pack.
When I finally finish, I look at my watch and realize that it’s late. I close everything down and head upstairs. As I do, I open my mind to the packhouse, feeling the different levels of activity from sleep to sex, then I reach out past the packhouse to the patrols making sure they don’t have any concerns. Once I’m sure the pack is secure, I reach out to Shane, brushing against his mind and finding him thought okay. I reach out to Enya, and find her awake, but also okay.

That’s good, it gives me a chance to do something I’ve wanted to do since I almost kissed Enya earlier today.
Chapter 33
I head up to my room and shower quickly and pulling on a pair of boxers before grabbing my phone. I sit on my bed and lean against the headboard. I press the number on my speed dial and put the phone to
my car.
“Christian, how are you? I was wondering when I’d hear from you.”
“Hey, Dad,” I say. “How is the fam?” I ask.
“We’re good. I’m surprised that you’re calling so late. Is everything okay?”
I look at the door to my room. IS everything okay?
I’m quiet too long and my father notices, of course.
“Christian?”
“I’m not sure I was the right person for this job, Dad,” I tell him.
His tone is instantly serious.
“Talk to me. What’s going on?”
