Chapter 56 Let’s Leave It At That For Now
James’s expression stayed stern, unmoved by Rachel’s efforts to smooth things over. “The kids are young–they don’t know any better. But him? He’s a grown man. Shouldn’t he know what to do?”
“Chris, you should be grateful things haven’t spiraled out of control. Otherwise-”
Before he could finish, Chris clung to his arm, his face full of regret. “James, I really know I was wrong. I mean it.”
James fell silent.
Rachel pressed her lips together, trying not to laugh.
Chris kept pleading, “I really messed up, I know, and I swear it won’t happen again. I was careless, but it’s just ‘cause I care so much about those two little ones. Come on, James, cut me some slack.”
James‘ eye twitched as he shook Chris off. “Don’t get all mushy with me.”
Seeing this, Rachel seized the moment. “Alright, he’s already forgiven you.” Chris immediately brightened and sat obediently in his chair.
James took a sip of tea, his tone heavy. “So, how does your manager plan to
adle this?”
Chris straightened up and replied dutifully, “It’s all under control. Selena already has people handling it. Thankfully, the kids‘ faces didn’t show up on camera, so it shouldn’t turn into a big deal.” As he spoke, his eyes flicked toward Rachel.
James turned to Rachel next, a note of concern in his voice. “And you? Are you okay? I’ve arranged for a private jet–if necessary, I can fly Alyssa and Nick home right away.”
got Rachel offered a calm explanation. “It’s alright. They’ll stay with me for now. I’ve helping take care of them. This is the longest we’ve ever been apart, which is probably why they dragged Chris into all this in the first place.”

James couldn’t help but worry.
Rachel offered a soft smile. “Nothing’s going to go wrong. I won’t let anyone find out about them before we head back. Besides, my schedule here isn’t predictable–things come up all the time. I can’t promise them any kind of routine, and if they end up waiting too long, they’ll just get anxious.”
She gave a reassuring nød. “I promise, everything will be fine.”

Seeing how confident she was, James couldn’t argue with her. Still, wanting to ensure everything was handled properly, he accompanied Chris and oversaw things himself.
Chris had no choice but to agree, though the thought of being alone in a car with his older brother filled him with dread.
He geared up and made sure to keep a bit of distance as they walked.
Rachel gave him a reassuring smile. “James might come off as strict, but he’s got a soft heart. If he starts scolding you again, just turn on the charm–act cute.”
Chris figured that might be his best shot.
“I found a reliable nanny for Alyssa and Nick,” he told Selena. “If you ever need help, I cas send her over. And if things get hectic, just give me a call–they’re always welcome at my place. I’ve kind of gotten used to having them around these past few days.”
“Alright,” she replied simply.
To avoid the paparazzi, Rachel and Chris left separately.
She watched as Chris‘ SUV drove away. Just as she was about to leave, a shadow suddenly appeared in front of her.
She was surprised to see that it was Zane.
A cold voice sounded. “Busy, are you?”
Rachel held her breath. She steadied herself and asked, “What do you want?”
Zane looked down at her. “What’s this? Too busy meeting new men every day to remember the promise you made?”
