Chapter 45 As Expected, Something’s Wrong
White spoke kindly, “Ms. Freeman, you don’t believe me? Everyone in the villa can vouch for it.”
Rachel frowned slightly, clearly surprised.
But this was something Zane would never do.
He’d said he was taking her to the hospital yesterday–so why had he brought her back to Myra Heights instead?
“Are you feeling hungry, ma’am? Let me fix you some breakfast,” White offered, gently trying to guide her back to bed.
“No need. I’ve already overstayed my welcome,” Rachel said softly. “White, please make sure to thank Mr. Jenkins for me.”
“Ms. Freeman?” White asked, a bit taken aback.
Rachel didn’t want to stay a minute longer. Whatever Zane’s reasons were for bringing her back, she couldn’t afford to let her guard down. Still, the fact remained—he had helped her, and she would repay that debt. But that didn’t mean she’d forget what he did to her seven years ago.
He might have cleared some suspicion, but he was far from innocent.
Still weak and unsteady, Rachel left Myra Heights, flagged down a cab, and went straight back to her apartment. She called Rebecca to bring her some medicine.
“She left?”
Zane’s expression darkened the moment he heard.
He’d stayed by her side, caring for her day and night—and she walked out without saying a word.
Colin added, “White said Ms. Freeman did leave a message–she thanked you.”
That only made Zane’s mood worse.
Colin raised an eyebrow, noticing Zane’s mood had taken an even darker turn. Hoping to shift his focus, he quickly handed over a stack of documents.
Just then, Zane’s phone rang–it was Shawn.

“You were right,” Shawn said. “Rachel really did visit the gynecology department back then.
Zane’s expression shifted instantly.
“But there’s a catch,” Shawn continued. “The doctor who saw her left seven years ago. It’s going to take some time to track her down.”
“Find that doctor, no matter what it takes.”
He had to know exactly why Rachel went to the gynecology department back then. And what was the story behind the child she mentioned?
After hanging up, Colin also ended his Bluetooth call. “Mr. Jenkins, Ms. Bailey is here.”
Zane took a sip of coffee. “Let her in.”
Colin stood to greet her personally.
Janice entered carrying a lunchbox, offering warm smiles and polite nods to every staff member she passed. To most people in the company, she came across as friendly and approachable–and it was no secret many believed she’d eventually become Mrs. Jenkins.
She walked confidently into the office and placed the lunchbox on the coffee table, as if it were second nature. “I heard you were back, so I made a few snacks myself,” she said with a soft smile. Then, moving to his side with quiet concern, she added, “You look worn out. Didn’t get any rest last night?”
Hearing Janice’s words, Zane frowned, sensing something was off.
“How did you know I was back?”
The moment he asked, a brief flash of panic crossed Janice’s eyes. She quickly composed herself and said, “Your car’s pretty recognizable. A friend of mine was passing by your company today and happened to see it–she mentioned it to me.”
Janice then stepped behind him and reached out to massage his shoulders; but Zane brushed her off.
“In the future, don’t trouble yourself with these tiring things. Isn’t that what the maid is for?”
Janice gave a soft smile. “You’ve already stopped me from dancing and even hired someone to look after me. At this rate, I’ll end up completely useless. Cooking for you is the one thing I still feel I can do.
“If you won’t even let me do that… I’ll just be sitting around with nothing to offer. What if Mr. Jenkins Senior and Mrs. Jenkins start to think I’m not good enough?”
