Chapter 44 Was She Ever Pregnant?
Had Rachel ever been pregnant?
Zane had looked into Rachel’s life abroad over the past seven years, during which she lived under the name “Selena.” There was no record of her having any close relationships with men. She spent nearly every waking moment at the research institute.
Then why would she say something like that?
Rachel looked genuinely panicked, as if terrified the “doctor” might abandon her. She gripped Zane’s hand with desperation, her nails pressing hard into his skin.
“Doctor, they mean everything to me. Please, I’m begging you–save them. Save my children.”
Children?
Zane’s expression turned serious. Whether she was dreaming or not, he couldn’t ignore it- he needed to know the truth.

He asked quietly, his voice low and tense, “Racyhel, whose children are you talking about?”
The question seemed to jolt Rachel. She suddenly let go of his hand, turned away, and clutched the blanket as if to hide. “No one can hurt my children. No one.”
Zane grabbed her shoulders and turned her to face him.
“Answer me. Whose children are you talking about?”
Rachel’s face was etched with sheer panic and fear. She shook her head wildly, her voice rising in desperation. “He’s going to kill us… he won’t let us live. No–please, no!”
The words tore from her like a scream–and then, in an instant, she collapsed and lost consciousness.
Seeing this, Zane’s face tightened. “Rachel? Rachel?”
Damn it.
Hearing the commotion, Colin came in and asked, “Mr. Jenkins, what happened?”
“Call Shawn and tell him to come back!”
Half an hour later, Shawn rushed back after getting the call, nearly cursing when he saw Zane.

After quickly checking Rachel, he said, “She just fainted from the heat. Didn’t tell you to keep a close eye on her?”
Zane sat on the couch, his expression heavy with tension. When he was told Rachel was stable, some of the tension in his face eased.
Then he asked, “Why did Rachel go to the hospital seven years ago?”
He hesitated, then added, “Can you look into it?”
Shawn narrowed his gaze. “Why? Is there something off about what happened back then? I thought your people already did a full background check.”
“Yeah, but everything’s been wiped clean.”
“So now you want to investigate what happened seven years ago all over again?”
“Yes.”
Shawn replied, “If even you couldn’t find anything, then I’ll just have to do my best.”
Zane recalled the words Rachel had muttered in her sleep. “Start with the gynecology department.”
The following day, Rachel woke up because her throat was burning with pain.
Her eyelids ached as she slowly opened her eyes. The room around her felt strangely familiar. She sat up, glancing around, and bits of the previous day began to surface in her memory.
Then Zane’s face flashed in her mind.
Zane? Myra Heights? How had she ended
up here?
Rachel lifted the blanket and carefully got out of bed, using the wall for support as she made her way out of the room. The surroundings stirred something deep in her she really was back at Myra Heights, the place she had once called home for two years.
“Ms. Freeman, why are you up already?”
Rachel was surprised to hear the familiar voice. “White?”
Back then, Kent had arranged for Daisy and White to help manage things–Rachel hadn’t expected White to still be around.
“Yes, Ms. Freeman,” White said gently, steadying her. “Dr. Naver mentioned that your b still weak and you need plenty of rest. Sir also instructed me to take good care of you.”

Rachel’s brow furrowed. “Was it Zane who brought me here?”

“Yes, Ms. Freeman. You really gave us a scare last night,” White replied. “Mr. Jenkins carried you back covered in blood, and stayed by your side the entire day and night. He didn’t leave until your fever finally broke. Then he headed to the office carly this morning.”
Rachel blinked. “He… took care of me?”
