Rachel returned to her apartment and sank wearily onto the couch.

After taking a moment to compose herself, she put on a smile and started a video call with her two precious children.
They answered almost immediately.
The moment she saw Alyssa and Nick appear on the screen, her smile grew even brighter. As expected, no matter how bad her mood was, seeing her kids always made everything better.
“Did you miss me?”
Alyssa nodded enthusiastically. “Of course I missed you, Mommy! When will you finish your work and come back to be with us?”
A flicker of worry crossed Rachel’s mind. If Zane hadn’t been the one behind the attempt on her life, then her plans would need adjusting. She had to settle everything before the research project wrapped up–whenever that might be.
There were still too many unknowns.
She offered a soft smile. “I’ll finish this project as quickly as I can, and then I’ll take a full month off to stay home with you. How does that sound?”
Alyssa clapped her hands. “Yay! Nick and I will be good and wait for you to come back.”
Nick, sitting quietly beside her, added, “Mommy, you need to take care of yourself. Don’t stay up too late working.”
“Alright, I’ll listen to you, Nick.”
Nick, sounding much older than his years, reminded her, “You have to take the supplements I prepared for you every day.”
“I am. I haven’t missed a single dose.”
“My turn, my turn!” Alyssa raised her little hand. “Mommy, you also have to eat on time. Don’t just drink coffee!”
“Okay, I remember everything you both said.” Rachel basked in their concern, feeling for a moment as if she were the one being looked after. “You two must listen to Mrs. Vena at home, alright?”
“Yes, Mommy!” Alyssa replied with a sweet smile.

“Mommy, it’s already late over there. You should get some rest,” Nick urged.

“Alright.” Rachel nodded. “You two be, good, and if anything happens, call Uncle James, okay?”
“Got it. Goodnight, Mommy.” Nick waved, and Alyssa blew a kiss at the screen.
The moment the call ended, Alyssa let out a sigh of relief and patted her chest.
“Whew! I was so nervous. If you hadn’t set everything up ahead of time and Mommy saw our real room in the background, she definitely would’ve figured it out.”
Meanwhile, Nick was already back at his computer, eyes fixed on the stock chart for TN Group.
“Even if Mommy didn’t notice this time, we still have to be careful. While we still have time, we need to finish what we started. Like they say, ‘act first and report later.“”
“Huh? What does that mean?”
Nick tossed her a dictionary. “Look it up and learn.”
The next day.
Rachel got a call from the police station, asking her to come in and complete the paperwork to restore her legal identity records.
She wasn’t surprised–if anything, she thought Henry had taken his time. If she hadn’t deliberately brought it up at the hospital the other day, he’d probably still be too focused on her marital status to even consider restoring her identity.
Now that her records were officially tied back to the Freeman family, Rachel would finally have the leverage she needed to reclaim what was rightfully hers.
After hanging up, a faint smile played on her lips. The Freeman family–things between them were only just beginning.
When she arrived at the police station, she saw Henry sitting in a wheelchair, his leg newly wrapped in bandages. A flicker of surprise crossed her eyes.
She recalled that Henry had a heart condition, so why was his leg bandaged now?
Henry scowled. “What took you so long? Do you have any idea how long I’ve been waiting?”
