“What are you trying to do to me?” Rachel wasn’t afraid of him at all. She just found it amusing. Gosh, I feel sorry for Ms. Bailey if she realized the man lying next to her had gone missing just to be around with other women.
Frowning. Zane disdainfully let go of her hand.
“Are you trying to get my attention by saying that?” He asked bluntly.
Rachel chuckled in reply. “Why would I do that? You’re getting more humorous, Mr. Jenkins. Aren’t you the one who barged into my apartment this late at night?”
Zane’s expression darkened.
“You better leave when I’m still in a good mood, Mr. Jenkins. Because if we’re talking about the project, you’d have no advantage over me, otherwise.”
Suppressing his anger, Zane took two steps forward and lowered his head. “You can keep playing your tricks, and I’ll stick with this to the end. I’m curious about your next step as well,” he remarked in a low voice.
With a snort, he turned and slammed the door shut as he left.
Then, Rachel withdrew her indifferent gaze.
Zane, who was already sitting in the car, did not immediately ask Colin to start driving back. He lit a cigarette and gazed at the building instead. “Is there any investigation progress on the car accident seven years ago?” he asked.
Colin tilted his head and replied, “All the leads have been cut off. They have completely vanished.”
Upon hearing that, Zane frowned, “Vanished, you mean?”
Colin nodded in response. “Yes, the leads disappeared entirely, which is why it’s strange. Do we need to investigate further, Mr. Jenkins?”
Zane fell silent for a few seconds. Then, he answered, “Yes, investigate further. I believe there are still traces to be found.”
Later that night, Rachel received a call from Mason, asking for a meet–up at Drew Research
Insitute.
She never would have thought that she would see Zane in the deputy director’s office.

Mason was pouring a cup of tea for Zane when he saw Rachel entering his office. He glanced back and forth between Zane and Rachel and snapped into realization suddenly.
After all, the incident where Rachel got dumped by Zane had caused quite a stir in the circle.
Mason only felt that something was off, but he hadn’t thought about it at all. Now that he saw the two of them here in his office together, the memories came flooding back, sending chills down his spine.
Like, what are the odds?
You’re here, Rachel! Take a seat.”
Mason felt like he was walking on eggshells. If only he had realized the relationship between these two earlier, he wouldn’t have made that call to Rachel just now.
Rachel nodded slightly and sat across from Zane.
And Mason was sitting between them.
He didn’t know how to start the conversation despite how he had the words prepared earlier.
Zane stared straight into Rachel’s eyes. Nonchalantly, he said, “Mr. Jennings said you chose TN Group back then.”
Rachel took a sip of tea. “I did. But I also tested your attitude and sincerity, which did not convince me, Mr. Jenkins. So, I haven’t decided yet whether or not to cooperate with TN Group.”
As soon as Rachel finished her sentence, Mason almost dropped the cup in his hand. He had just solemnly promised Zane that the cooperation was guaranteed.
Mason didn’t expect Rachel to say that at all.
Zane squinted his eyes. “You mentioned how my attitude and sincerity didn’t convince you. May I ask if it’s carrying personal grievances?”
Grinning a little, Rachel responded, “It depends.”
“Well then, I will give up another 20% on the original basis.”
After hearing that, Mason widened his eyes. He couldn’t believe that Zane could increase the commission to 60% just to secure the cooperation. It was the highest commission in history.
He looked nervously at Rachel.
To their surprise, Rachel remained calm and beamed. “I can tell that you’re quite sincere

now. However, I cannot promise you anything yet. After all, I made an appointment with Mr. Yates last night for a discussion. I’ll make the final decision after that. I’m sorry that you came here for nothing, Mr. Jenkins.”
With that, Rachel nodded slightly as she stood up. She then turned around and left the office.
In an instant, Zane’s expression turned grim, and Mason was dumbfounded.
Did she just reject Zane? Mason thought.
