Chapter 3
Germaine’s eyelid twitched like it was possessed. She darted a glance at the knocked out guy slumped on the couch, then at Caitlyn, arms crossed, her face colder than a winter hex.
Germaine’s brain screeched to a halt. “What in the nine hells? Dude… no, boss lady? What’s the deal?‘
Nobody had a clue what the superhero who’d dropped the Demon Lord looked like. Not even Germaine, Caitlyn’s ride–or–die,
All she knew was the light came out of nowhere–like, one second they’re all chilling, the neat, wham, Demon Lord’s down and out.
Germaine’s head throbbed with confusion. She whipped around to Leon, stammering “Uh, Lady Caitlyn we, like, icing this guy now or what?”
Caitlyn’s brow flicked up. Quick as a curse, her hand lashed out, snacking Germaine’s forehead with a sharp thwap
“Ow, shit!” Germaine yelped, grabbing her skull and ducking li
like a kid caught stealing cookies, her face all pouty betrayal.
“If I wanted him dead, you think I’d call you, dimwit?” Caitlyn snapped, her scarlet oyes flashing like twin infernos.
Germaine’s jaw hit the floor, eyes bugging out. “Hold up… so we’re saving him? The hero? The guy who handed you your ass? Isn’t he your, y’know, arch
nemesis
Caitlyn’s lips pressed thin, her arms tightening like she was holding back a storm. Her gut twisted with something she couldn’t pin down. Her gaze slid to the guy on the couch–his face still screwed up in pain, like a lost soul–and she huffed a reluctant sigh. “He’s not with the Human Allance anymore.”
“Come again?” Germaine blinked, totally thrown..
“You living under a rock? it’s all over the news. This idiot ditched the Alliance. Word is, he even smoked one of his old crew. My guess? Those shady Alsance gezers played him dirty.” Caitlyn’s voice wavered, her usual swagger faltering.
Germaine just stared, brain lagging. “Okay, but… why’s he here? Why’s he dragging his sorry ass to you?”
Caitlyn’s chest Lightened. Her mind flashed to Leon at her doorstep–those kicked puppy eyes, that desperate, please–don’t–let–me–die vibe that made her want to punch something… or worse, feel something.
Her scowl deepened.
She shook it off, landing a quick kick to Germaine’s rear. “Quit running your mouth and fix him, dammit!”
“Ow, fine, jeez!” Germaine muttered, rubbing her butt and throwing Caitlyn a sulky side–eye.
She reached for Leon’s chest, fingers grazing his stupidly chiseled pecs.
Germaine’s mind kicked into overdrive. This is straight–up bonkers!
A crazy idea sparked. This wasn’t just weird–it was sus, A human hero, Caitlyn’s old nemesis, betrayed his people, got hall–killed, and crawled here for help? That was not random,
For him to show up at the Demon Lord’s door, he had to trust her. Like, bet–his–life–on–it trust.
Germaine’s pulse hammered.
She gulped, sneaking a peek at Leon’s face as her hands pressed against his chest. No failing this time–mostly because Caitlyn had his wrists locked down tight
‘Oh, damn. This is some next–level personal shit Germaine’s thoughts spiraled ‘Did Lean bail on the Alliance… for her? For Lady Caitlyn?”
Her brain kept digging. She lashed back to Caitlyn after that big light–zero scratches, except that weird bruise on her hip…..

Chapter 3
Germaine’s eyes went wide. ‘No freaking way
She sucked in a shaky breath, dead certain she’d just cracked the juiciest secret in the realm
Caitlyn stepping down after her defeat, Leon abandoning the Human Alliance–it was a cunning ploy. A secret scheme to cast off the world’s rules, slip into the shadows, and live happily ever after as a married couple.
Germaine’s heart swooned. Mortal enemies? Arch–rivals? More like lovers doomed by fate!
She sighed dreamily. ‘Gods, it’s stupidly romantic!
Germaine’s imagination spun a sprawling saga.
Lean and Caitlyn, their passion forged in the heat of battle, hearts tangled but bound by duty. So they pulled off this insane stunt to be together.
Germaine’s eyes gleamed. A bestselling epic. I’m a damn genius!
“What’s the word?” Caitlyn’s voice sliced through from behind, cold as a winter blade.
Germaine, deep in her fantasy, nearly leaped out of her skin,
“Shit!” She coughed, forcing a grim frown. “It’s bad. I’m honestly shocked he’s still breathing”
Caitlyn’s fist clenched, her voice sharp as a whip. “So, he’s toast?”
“Nah, hold on,” Germaine said, flapping a hand. “He’s hanging on like a stubborn mule. I can patch most of his wounds, but those gashes humming with Law magic? Yeah, I’m out of my league.”
Germaine sighed, her gaze softening with pity.
Her heart ached. ‘Poor bastard. All this to be with Caitlyn. Her old grudge against Leon melted away!
She nodded to herself. “He’s a lovesick madman. A true hero!
Caitlyn’s blazing scarlet eyes locked on the jagged wounds across Leon’s chest, fury flaring. “Those human lowlites,” she snarled. “Pounding their own war hero like this?”
Hell, even she hadn’t hit him this hard. Not even in their final showdown-
Caitlyn’s face darkened, her stare on Leon shifting like storm clouds
Her mind hissed. ‘This guy’s always been a total freak.”
Germaine, though, drank in Caitlyn’s words like holy writ
Her pulse quickened. ‘She’s torn up over her man. They’re head–over–heels!
Soulmates, cursed by fate, the whole tragic package. This was need–to–know–only.
Caitlyn’s mind raced. What if the other Demons found out their Lord was holed up with the hero who’d beaten her senseless? They’d tear the world apart to keep them from getting too coły.
Germaine straightened, eyes burning with resolve. “My lady, lips are sealed. I swear it on my file.”
Caitlyn blinked, caught off guard, then gave a Curt nod. “Yeah…Leon being here stays under wraps.”
If the Human Alliance or the Demons sniffed this out, even a neutral city like this would turn into a bloodbath,
The two Demons–one looming, one pint–sized–stood in silence, each lost in their own tangled thoughts,

Chapter 3
Just then, Leon coughed, blood speckling his lips.
Germaine yelped, diving into action, her hands glowing with healing magic as she worked on him,
“This is messy,” Germaine muttered after a moment. “Those wounds? I can’t touch ‘em. But if anyone can pull through, it’s Leon himself. Once he’s awake, he’ll probably heal–slowly
“Thing is, he’s gotta chill. One cut’s way too close to his heart. He fights now? He’s done for
Caitlyn nodded absently, unfazed. She knew Loon was tougher than a cockroach, She’d seen it in their countless throwdowns.
“No big deal,” she said, a smirk tugging her lips. “Even half–dead, not many humans or Demons could take him in a scrap. Guy’s a full–on monster.”
Germaine’s mouth twitched, barely swallowing a retort.
Her thoughts screamed. Monster? Lady, you’re just as bad! But she clamped her jaw shut.
