Chapter 15
Millicent’s POV
I stood frozen in place. My body stiffened, tears streamed down my cheeks–yet no one offered
me comfort.
This time, Slade didn’t come over to console me like he used to. He simply turned his back and walked into the study without looking back.
My fists clenched at my sides. I touched my belly, teeth gritted, and shouted, “But I’m pregnant!”
Finally, Slade stopped cold.
He whipped around and stared at me in silence. His eyes were sharp and cold like knives.
My heart skipped a beat under the weight of his gaze. My voice trembled as I spoke again.
“This is your child, Slade. I’m finally willing to have your baby. Really, can’t we just try to make it work?”
A long silence fell between us.
“Abort it.”
The words sliced through the air–clean, brutal, final. Like a blade severing every last illusion I clung to.
My eyes widened. “What did you say?!”
“I said,” he repeated coldly, “abort it.”
His voice was steady, almost inhuman. “I don’t want that child. And you shouldn’t either.”
Slade’s POV
In the space of a few breaths, I had already thought it through.
When I found out Millicent was pregnant, I felt… nothing. No joy.
But when I found out Virginia was pregnant back then, I was ecstatic.
‘I never truly want another child. I want my child… with Virginia.‘
But by the time I realized that, it was far too late.
Millicent’s face turned ghostly pale, her lips trembling. “This is your own flesh and blood! And you’re telling me to just get rid of it?”
“So what if it’s mine?” My gaze was empty. “I don’t love you. And I won’t love your child.”
She took a step back, her eyes wide with disbelief. “Slade… you’ve changed. How could you be like this to me?”
“You should’ve seen this coming,” I replied sharply. “I was blind before–too stupid to see who you really are.”
She hissed through gritted teeth, “So now you regret letting me push Virginia away, is that it?” “Don’t forget,” she snapped, “I’m the one who’s with you now! Everyone knows I’m your fiancée!” “So what?” Slade laughed bitterly, the light in his eyes long extinguished. “You think just because you’re the one in the spotlight now, that means you’ve won? Milly, you really overestimate yourself.”

I stepped toward her, slow and deliberate, until I was nearly in her face. “You don’t even deserve that spot.”
“You-” Millicent’s breath hitched. Her voice cracked. “Didn’t you always say you loved me? You used to spoil me! You used to tell me I was the only woman you love!”
“I did like you,” I said, each word deliberate and sharp. “But that wasn’t love. That was a teenage obsession–a delusion. I thought I wanted you.
“But after Virginia left, I realized just how wrong I’d been.
“She’s my real fiancée. My mistake? It’s not seeing it sooner–I… I love her.”
Milly stood there as color drained from her face inch by inch.
“Then why did you stay with me?”
“I was bitter,” I said flatly.
Her expression twisted. “Fine. Even if you don’t want this baby, your parents will!”
And with that, she stormed off.
Millicent’s POV
I kept my word. By the next morning, I was already at Slades‘ parents‘ estate.
I sat on the couch, my eyes swollen, my voice soft and pitiful. “Auntie, Uncle… I didn’t come here to cause trouble. But Slade… he won’t accept the baby.”
