“Did you really get rid of that bitch?” Blake Ambrose asked in a low voice. Heidi stood at the door in her wedding gown, her arm tucked gracefully around her father’s.
“Relax! If I’d known she was that kind of trash, I would’ve dealt with her ages ago. Thought she was some uptight saint, but a few bills were enough to send her running! Pathetic and naïve!“}
Heidi held a dignified smile, but her voice oozed with scorn.
“A few bills? That was a loan from you. Don’t forget to return it to the family fast! Still, something feels off. I heard Dexter cared for her deeply. He must’ve given her a hefty amount. Why would she just-”
Before Blake could finish, Heidi cut him off coldly.
“That was before I came back. Now that I’ve returned, what is she? If she hadn’t taken the money and left, what was I supposed to do, wait until I’ve locked in the title of Mrs. Laurence and then ruin her?”
“Hmm, all those years by Dexter’s side clearly didn’t make her any smarter. I just had to play the delicate damsel, look a little pitiful, and Dexter didn’t even blink before agreeing to marry me. She should’ve known her place.”
“What are you two whispering about?” Dexter walked over. Blake immediately dropped the sneer on his face and stretched out his hand with a warm smile.
“Heidi says you’re incredibly thoughtful, you had everything for the wedding prepared so early! Now that I’m handing her over to you, I can finally breathe easy!“}]
Dexter barely returned the handshake. It was obvious he hadn’t caught the earlier conversation.
Still, Blake leaned in eagerly. “Son–in–law, about the Ambrose family’s loan situation, after the wedding, maybe we could…”
“Dad!” Heidi snapped, barely keeping her composure. She loathed how petty and shameless he sounded. If it weren’t for him, the family wouldn’t have fallen this far.
The wedding hadn’t even started, and he was already begging Dexter for money. How humiliating.
Once she officially became Mrs. Laurence, would the money still be a problem?”
“Uncle Blake, don’t worry. I gave my word about injecting capital into the Ambrose family. I won’t go back on it. But I also hope you’ll stop putting pressure on Heidi. She’s an artist. Let her focus on her painting.” Dexter’s voice carried a trace of impatience.
“Still calling me ‘Uncle‘?” Blake had no choice now but to keep flattering this son–in–law, he clung to for survival. He was clearly hoping Dexter would call him “Dad,” but Dexter casually ignored it and pulled Heidi aside.
Blake didn’t dare show a hint of frustration. He swallowed his resentment silently. This daughter of his, besides knowing how to charm men, had zero real talent.
Yet that fool Dexter insisted on treating her like some kind of serious artist.M
“I’m sorry, Brother Dexter. My dad’s just overly anxious about the company. I didn’t mean to trouble you…” Heidi lowered her voice, playing pitifully as always in front of Dexter.
“It’s fine. Now that you’re Mrs. Laurence, he won’t dare force you to marry some old man anymore. I’ve arranged for a lawyer to come by the house tomorrow to handle the divorce papers. Tonight, let’s head back to the Laurence residence to avoid suspicion.” Dexter rubbed his eyes. Ever since Blythe left, his eyelids had been twitching without rest, and an unease lingered in his chest.” He figured it was best to end this farce quickly, then explain everything to Blythe properly.”
Dexter believed Blythe would understand.”
This sudden marriage, followed by a quiet divorce, was all just to stop Heidi from being sold off to some old creep. At most, he’d lose a bit of reputation, nothing more.”
Heidi’s smile froze. She hadn’t expected Dexter to move so fast, giving her no room to react. She tightened her grip on the powder in her palm, though her face still wore a gentle, well–practiced smile.M
“Okay, Brother Dexter. If Sister Blythe has any misunderstandings, just let me know. I’ll help explain everything to her!“!!
Dexter gave a half–hearted nod as the officiant urged them to enter the hall.
As she watched him walk away, Heidi’s eyes darkened with quiet malice.M “Explain? Go find Blythe first, if you can. You brought this all on yourself.“”
Her hand brushed gently over her lower abdomen. Then, with a soft smile and an air of elegance, she straightened her back and stepped into the hall.
