Why?” I, like Heidi, couldn’t make sense of Dexter’s cruel game. “Why? Of course, to get revenge on Blythe! You stole her work, bribed reporters to slander her name. If it worked, she’d never paint again. If it didn’t, you could still frame her. You forced her t leave me! You deserve to die! But I won’t let you go easy, I want you to suffer! “So I gathered every shred of your cheating, fed your child the same drugs you gave me! I want you to burn in hell! And drag the entire Ambrose family down with you! Anyone who hurts Blythe deserves death!”
Dexter’s face twisted with a hellish fury as if he had risen straight from the underworld.

“I deserve to die?” Heidi clutched her belly and laughed, madness gleaming in her eyes.
“Wasn’t it you who indulged me, who enjoyed teasing me, giving me the chance to see Blythe’s paintings? Wasn’t it because you didn’t trust her that she ended up in the hospital with a bleeding ulcer? By the end, he dropped to one knee, his hand reaching out toward me.
All I could think about was getting Heidi to the hospital. If this went on, the baby wouldn’t survive, and neither would she!
But Dexter refused to listen. He stepped closer and closer, and I backed away, heart pounding
with fear.
Then, strong arms wrapped around my waist from behind.
“Who’s going to protect my fiancée? You? A toad lusting after a swan!”
Dexter leaped from the floor and threw a punch at Noah.
Noah’s bodyguards quickly restrained him.
Dexter struggled on the ground, unwilling to surrender. “For this man? What does he have that don’t? Blythe, when did you get together with him? Were you planning to leave me all along?!”
“Don’t assume everyone’s as filthy as you. Sorry I’m late, sweetheart.” Noah pulled me close, his warm hands lending me strength.
“Hurry, get the bodyguards to take Heidi to the hospital! She won’t make it otherwise!” I ordered. Heidi looked at me in disbelief, opened her mouth as if to speak, but then turned away silently as they carried her off.
“Dexter! We were over a long time ago! I admit I once loved you deeply, but some things, once lost, can never be regained…”

Then I turned to Noah. “I’ve built a new life. I’m truly happy with who I am now. And I’m grateful to you, for never marrying me and pushing me into a bigger world. I’ve moved on. I hope you can,
too.”
I slipped my hand into Noah’s arm. As we walked away, Dexter screamed behind me, frantic and wild. “Why? Why?! Just because he has more money and power?”
“What does money have to do with it? No wonder Blythe left you! You treated her like a trophy, never truly valued her. She’s selling paintings for over a hundred million now, do you really think she needs your money? I don’t even have the energy to argue with you!”
Noah shot back, his anger flaring. But to me, he was still the same boyish senior I’d known. Hard to believe he was the powerful Tanner family head.
‘I’m with him because when I’m by his side, I can finally be myself.”
