Chapter 928
After breaking away from Joseph, she finally realized what people meant by the phrase “a sweet slap in the face.”
A woman could be independent–why did she ever think she needed a man to achieve anything?
What a joke.
Besides, what could Joseph really offer her anyway?
Just some money at most.
He couldn’t give her anything else.
Seeing that it was getting late, Judy didn’t let Joseph stay the night.
Joseph looked reluctant. “You really don’t need me to stay with you?”
“But I’m on my period…”
A soft flush crept up Judy’s ears, as if she were a little embarrassed.
Her delicate, rosy face made Joseph’s thoughts start to drift.
But those three words-“on my period“—were like a bucket of cold water dumped over his head.
If that was the case, there was nothing he could say.
So, Joseph put on a concerned expression and said, “It’s fine. I can still be here to take care of you. I didn’t want to do that kind of thing.
“I know you’re on your period. I do have boundaries, you know.”
Hearing that, Judy could only feel Joseph was incredibly hard to shake off.
She had made her rejection clear–why was he still being so persistent?
Wasn’t her message obvious enough?
to
stay over just
She took a deep breath, softening her expression. “Joseph, I know you care about me, but I really worry about you too.
“You’ve been working all day. If you still have to take care of me, that’s too much. Let’s just leave it at that.”
She lowered her head, long lashes casting a shadow over her eyes.
“You know how your parents feel about me. If they found out you were running yourself ragged for my sake, who knows what they’d say about me…”
Joseph thought for a moment and realized she did have a point.
With no other choice, Joseph had to leave.
Before heading off, he even bought a bunch of tonics for Judy to replenish her energy and blood.
Looking at the pile of goods, Judy found it all a bit ridiculous.
Now this man knew how to prepare these kinds of things?
Where was this thoughtfulness before?
It was just as she thought–when someone truly cared, they didn’t need to be taught.
They’d naturally figure things out.
She reached out and touched the stack of supplements.
Just a glance at the packaging already hinted at their hefty price; no need to even check what was inside.
But Judy wasn’t dazzled by these superficial gifts.
What she had in mind was using Joseph’s influence to climb her way onto a bigger stage in the country.
Once her fashion brand broke into that market, it was only a matter of time before it took off.
After that, she wouldn’t need Joseph’s help at all.
Even Kenneth had only been a stepping stone.
If the opportunity arose in the future, she wasn’t going to limit herself to either of these men.
She had her own life and plans.
Seeing how firm Judy was, Joseph didn’t press further.
“Then make sure to take good care of yourself. If anything happens, call me, okay?”
Judy nodded, indicating she understood.
But if one looked closely, there was a hint of impatience in her expression.
Joseph, still feeling guilty, didn’t notice, which only made things worse–Judy no longer felt the same genuine connection she once had with him.
No matter how well he treated her now, she’d already experienced the kind
of
f person he truly was.
