Chapter 919
Joseph waited a long time before Judy finally picked up.
“Hello? What’s going on?”
Judy’s voice clearly carried fatigue.
In that moment, Joseph picked up on it right away.
Still, he kept his tone calm as he asked, “Judy, where are you right now?”
“You came to the studio looking for me again?”
Judy sounded impatient, clearly unhappy about Joseph’s call..
Her mind had cleared a bit, which made Joseph all the more aware this time.
“What’s wrong? I’m not allowed to come see you?”
Joseph said it with a smile, sounding just like usual, giving nothing away.
Judy, having just gone through that ordeal, was still mentally foggy.
Next to her, Kenneth noticed her anxious tone and gave her a light pat, signaling her to stay composed.
She was far too on edge, one misstep away from giving herself away.
When things went wrong, staying calm was the key.
That was something Kenneth had learned after everything he’d been through.
Judy got the hint and gradually calmed down.
But Joseph still picked up on it.
He stayed silent, waiting for her to respond.
Judy then smiled and said, “Of course not, Joseph, that’s not what meant. I’m really glad you came.”
“Are you at the studio?”
Joseph asked, as if helping her come up with an excuse.
Kenneth, standing by, immediately sensed something was off.
His sharp, narrow eyes flickered with suspicion.
There was something strange about Joseph, as if he was trying to guide Judy’s answers.
And his timing, his pacing, it all felt off.
Kenneth was just about to give Judy a hint when he heard her speak up first.
“I’m not at the studio. Stop trying to find me.”
Joseph responded casually, “Oh? Then where did you go?”
Judy frowned. “Do I need to report to you where I go? Isn’t that my freedom?”
Joseph chuckled softly. “Of course, Judy. I’m just curious, that’s all You know, it’s been a while since I last saw you. I really do miss you.”
Hearing Joseph’s words, Judy felt a little embarrassed.
TID BUNUS
She glanced awkwardly at Kenneth, but he didn’t show much of a reaction.
Instead, he shook his head, looking puzzled.
He still felt something was off.
But Judy still couldn’t tell what Joseph was really getting at.
Kenneth, on the other hand, had a sinking feeling in his gut.
After all those years working under Lucas, his instincts could be scarily accurate.
Seeing Kenneth’s expression, Judy’s tone softened.
She followed along with Joseph’s words and said, “I miss you too, but I’ve really got things to handle lately. I’m away on a business trip.”
Judy read directly from Kenneth’s phone, repeating each word carefully.
Kenneth nodded and gave her a thumbs–up, indicating she got it right.
Seeing that, Judy finally let out a breath of relief.
Thank goodness Kenneth was there with her.
Something about Joseph felt off today, and she might not have been able to handle it on her own.
“So, that means you’re not home, right?”
“Of course. I’m on a trip, so I can’t be at home.”
