The intern still felt a bit regretful. “I heard her voice used to be really beautiful. What a shame.”
The doctor nodded, wearing a look of sympathy.
But that wasn’t his concern.
His job was simply to care for his patients, make sure they stayed Healthy, and help them recover enough to be discharged.
Everything else wasn’t his responsibility.
The rest would naturally be handled by the police.
Out of curiosity, the doctor asked, “By the way, did she commit something serious? Why is she still being kept in the hospital?”
He genuinely didn’t understand.
Judging by Tessa’s condition, she should’ve been discharged a while ago.
But the police had insisted on keeping her here.
Left with no choice, the intern leaned closer and explained in a low voice, “It’s complicated. The man who was with her his mental state isn’t right. He’s been completely out of it.
“And someone’s still digging for evidence. Once they find it, both of them can be interrogated together.”
Hearing that, the doctor looked a little overwhelmed.
He quietly backed out of the conversation, slipping his hands into the pockets of his white coat.
“Alright then, this is your business. Better I don’t get involved.
“Besides, even if I asked, I probably wouldn’t understand much of it anyway.”
Seeing his troubled expression, the intern couldn’t help but chuckle.
Clearly, every profession came with its own challenges.
One’d only understand if they experienced it themselves.
No one could ever fully grasp the difficulties of another.
“Alright, go get back to work.”
The officer gave the doctor a firm pat on the shoulder, a gesture of appreciation.
Between men, there was no need for anything elaborate.
A bit of encouragement and respect was enough.
Anything more would just be unnecessary fuss.
Hearing all that, Tessa quickly got back into bed and lay down again.
After listening to the conversation between the doctor and the intern, she felt a mix of emotions.
At first, she thought the voice issue had been a lie, but it turned out to be real.
Then she realized the police had purposely kept her in the hospital

When the officer came back into the room, he noticed the shifting expression on Tessa’s face.
He was a little confused–hadn’t she been fine just a moment ago when he left?
Why did she look so different now?
