But it still didn’t have the same gentle, pleasant tone it once did.
When the doctor walked in, he was met with Tessa’s hopeful gaze
Pushing up his glasses, he quickly asked, “Miss Walton, what seems to be the problem?”
Although he knew Tessa was a suspect in a police investigation, since she was in the hospital, she had to be treated like any other patient.
That had always been the hospital’s policy, and it never changed.
Tessa forced a faint smile. “Doctor, I just want to ask–will my voice ever recover?
“And also, I’d like to request discharge.”
At first, the intern just felt sorry for her.
But hearing the second part, he immediately stiffened.
He thought at first that Hector had gone too far, but Tessa was still a suspect, and that hadn’t changed.
And it wasn’t something others could just erase for her–it wasn’t within his power.
The intern subtly shook his head at the doctor, who instantly understood.
The doctor gave her an apologetic look.
“Miss Walton, the strangling you suffered was quite severe. If you’re hoping for a quick recovery, I’m afraid the chances are
slim.
“So we recommend you stay for further observation and avoid rushing to leave the hospital.”
With that, the doctor’s professional smile returned.
The intern quietly gave him a thumbs–up behind her back.
As expected, the older ones were still the sharpest.
If there was ever a need to collaborate, it was always better to work with someone familiar.
And after today, he was completely convinced of that.
The doctor’s response was flawless–there wasn’t a single loophole to pick at.
Upon hearing it, Tessa slowly lowered her gaze, unable to hide the disappointment in her heart.
She had truly liked the sound of her voice.
Who would’ve thought that a mere gamble would cost her that?
She would never let Julian off the hook!
Tessa looked up, eyes shimmering with unshed tears. “Then how much longer do I have to stay?”
The intern chimed in from the side, “Miss Walton, once you’ve recovered, we’ll have you give an official statement.”
Tessa nodded slightly, her face giving nothing away.
As if she had fully accepted the police’s explanation.
And with the doctor advising her the same, she had no choice but to lie back down again.

Chapter 873
The doctor and the intern exchanged a glance, both visibly relieved
Seeing Tessa lie back down, the intern quietly stepped out with the doctor.
Once outside, the intern gave the doctor a hearty pat on the shoulder, unable to hide his admiration.
“You really responded fast. That answer was spot on.”
The doctor patted his own chest, still a bit in disbelief.
“You were being serious about all that?”
The officer nodded earnestly, full of praise. “Of course. We were totally in sync.”
The doctor let out a breath and scratched the back of his head, looking a little sheepish.
“Actually, she’s already fit to be discharged. It’s just… recovering her vocal cords really is going to be a problem.”
The officer looked genuinely shocked. “I thought you were making it up–wait, it’s true?”
The doctor rolled his eyes and snapped, “This is my profession, you know.”
