“And besides, our boss has other matters to handle. He really can’t afford to waste any more time here.”
Hearing that, Hector smacked his forehead, finally remembering what they were actually here for.
He quickly bent forward in apology. “I’m so sorry, that’s on me. I take you there right away. My apologies again.”
As he spoke, he raised a hand and gestured ahead.
“If you look straight ahead, just follow this hallway. It’s not far–Julian Hayes is being held just down this way.”
Desmond glanced at Hector, puzzled. “You’re not coming with us?
Thinking of Julian’s current state inade Hector feel a little uneasy,
He looked at Lucas‘ sharp, indifferent profile, wrestled with himself for a moment, then gave in. “Alright, I’ll come with you.”
Originally, he hadn’t wanted to see Julian like this.
If it weren’t for Lucas‘ request, he probably wouldn’t have stepped foot there at all.
In just two days, Julian had become completely unrecognizable.
Hector led Lucas and Desmond to the holding area where Julian was detained.
Though his mental state was clearly unstable now, that didn’t mean he was free of all responsibility.
Before this, Julian had been completely sane.
So even if he’d lost it now, he still had to pay for what he did before
At that thought, Lucas‘ gaze turned cold.
There was no way he’d allow anyone who hurt Aurora to walk away unpunished.
Not a chance–not even a sliver of possibility.
That was why Lucas had decided to come in person.
He needed to see it for himself.
If Julian had truly gone mad, then he could rot in prison for the rest of his life.
But if he was faking it… if he had the nerve to pretend, Lucas wouldn’t be holding back.
A glint of coldness flashed in his eyes.
He was growing more curious to see what kind of state Julian was actually in.
When the group arrived at the holding cell, it was pitch dark inside
Even as they approached, there wasn’t a single sound from within!
Before Lucas could say anything, Desmond spoke up first. “Officer Hector, are you sure Julian Hayes is actually in there?”
He hesitated.
If it really were Julian, then with the noise they’d made walking over, there should’ve been some sort of reaction.
But even now, with them standing right in front of the cell, there was still complete silence.
The more he thought about it, the stranger it seemed.
And if Desmond found it strange, Lucas certainly had too.

Chapter. 858
He wasn’t stupid–he could sense something was off.
They were already at the door, and yet he couldn’t see Julian at all

For all he knew, Julian’s attention might not even be on them, which meant even making noise might be completely useless.
Hearing their questions, Hector hesitated, unsure of what to say.
“There’s definitely someone inside. Just wait a moment.”
At that, Lucas glanced at Desmond.
Both of them were equally puzzled by whatever was going on at this precinct.
Lucas narrowed his eyes slightly, deciding it was best to walt and observe.
In the business world, he’d learned that sometimes the smartest move was to stay still until the other side made theirs.
Hector stepped forward and unlocked the cell door.
