Aurora smiled so innocently, as if she had never once doubted Lucas.
Seeing that, Megan opened her mouth but hesitated to speak.
Was this really okay?
Helping her cousin lie to a friend she had grown up with.
No matter how she looked at it, Megan couldn’t quite reconcile it with her conscience.
But she didn’t know how to bring it up either.
After all, this was between the two of them.

Thinking that, Megan decided to keep quiet.
She forced a smile. “Looks like my cousin has quite the network here.”
Lucas met her gaze and smiled, giving a slight nod. “Just a coincidence.”
The moment their eyes met, Megan couldn’t help but shiver.
Great. She was so hopeless.
That childhood fear, etched deep in her bones, was still impossible to shake.
Whenever she saw her cousin, she instinctively tensed up.
There was no controlling it.
And while her cousin was undeniably handsome, when he wasn’t smiling, his presence was downright terrifying.
Bringing Leonard here today had taken all the courage she had.
No one knew that her legs had been shaking the entire time as she stood up to Lucas in front of Leonard.
It wasn’t until she saw Aurora again that she finally felt a little better.
But that was all after the fact.
Aurora waved her hand. “Alright, let’s leave the rest for when I’ve fully recovered.
“After all, that situation with my sister isn’t something that’ll be resolved overnight.”

So, Megan quickly changed the subject. “Alright, alright, you haven’t fully recovered yet. Stop thinking about people who only make you upset.
“Once you’re discharged, we’ll deal with all of that together.”
“Alright, I understand.”
Looking at the ever–bright and cheerful Megan in front of her, Aurora felt a rush of warmth.
She had misunderstood her before.
After watching those memories, Aurora only felt more protective of this optimistic girl.
She had really been through so much.
Aurora never would have imagined that Megan had cried so hard she passed out.
She used to think Megan had lied to her.
That during her most dangerous moments, Megan hadn’t even shown up.
But now it was clear–she had been unfair.
With that in mind, Aurora reached out and hugged Megan, her voice soft and sincere. “Megan, I’m so glad you’re here. Thank you for always staying by my side.”
Megan was stunned by the sudden hug.
The Aurora she knew had always been strong and composed.
This was the first time she’d seen her so gentle.
In her eyes, Aurora was always the older friend figure.
Even though they were about the same age, Aurora had always handled things so much better.
Because of that, Megan’s parents constantly compared her to Aurora.
But even so, Megan had never once fought with her–if anything, they’d only grown closer.
