“We’re about to start the rescue. You showing up now only slows things down!”
John Watson clutched his chest, trying to catch his breath.
“Mr. Fang, I just want to ask–who are the five students trapped inside?”
“What are you asking that for?”
Right as the team was getting ready to move, John chose to block the way with questions.
The principal was growing impatient.
“If you’ve got nothing important to say, step aside.”
But John raised his voice. “Mr. Fang, if there’s a student named Aurora Walton in there, you must make sure she’s rescued safely!”
The principal’s expression shifted. “How do you know there’s a student named Aurora Walton in there?”
“What!!”
John’s voice trembled as he spoke.
He raised his hand and clutched the principal’s arm, asking shakily, “Mr. Fang, you’re not joking with me, are you?”
The principal’s expression darkened.
He yanked his arm away. “All these people are watching–do you really think I’d joke about something like this?”
Seeing the principal’s reaction, John finally realized how serious the situation was.
