Joseph’s gaze dropped lower, his eyes gleaming with sleazy intent as he continued, “But… if you play your cards right, I might just keep you on the side as my mistress. You’d make more with me than clinging to that useless pretty boy.”
Aurora stared straight into his eyes, watching as his expression twisted into something grotesque.
Disgust churned in her stomach.
He was after the Walton younger heiress?
Her brows furrowed.
Didn’t Megan say this was just a casual gathering?
Was this some kind of setup to introduce her to Joseph?
Funny how she, the so–called heiress, was the last to know.
“The Walton younger heiress?” Aurora let out a cold laugh.
“That’s right–the younger Walton heiress!” Joseph smirked triumphantly.
“Looking at you, all rough around the edges, I doubt you’ve ever had the chance to be in her league. She’s a true socialite. Our circle isn’t the kind of place some gold–digging nobody like you can just waltz into.”
Seeing the change in her expression, Joseph chuckled. “What’s with that face? Jealous? Or are you scared?”
Aurora found it laughable.
So, in Joseph’s mind, just the title of Walton younger heiress made someone untouchable.
And no matter what, she would never measure up to his precious heiress.
She let out a sharp scoff and threw out a single sentence before turning away.
“Then I wish you the best of luck.”
As for setting her up with Joseph?
Maybe in another lifetime.
Without sparing him another glance, she turned and walked away, scanning the crowd for Megan.

Joseph was left standing there alone.
His eyes narrowed as he watched her retreating figure.
The thought of Aurora kneeling before him, begging, sent a shiver of excitement down his spine. His tongue flicked over his lips.
“Let’s see how long you can keep up that holier–than–thou act, Aurora Walton. Soon enough, you’d lose everything.”
With that thought, Joseph turned and headed into the private lounge.
He rubbed his hands together eagerly and leaned toward his friend. “Didn’t the Walton younger heiress say she was coming? Haven’t seen her yet.”
If she was showing up, it would definitely be with flair.
That’s just how these socialites were.
His rich friend slung an arm around his shoulder and patted him. “Relax, everything’s been arranged. I’ve got something else to do, so I’ll head out first. Just send me some pictures later.
Watching his friend leave, Joseph grinned. “Thanks, man. Once I’ve got the Walton younger heiress in the bag, you’ll get your share of the reward.”
As he spoke, Megan happened to be standing nearby.
Hearing his words, she immediately let out a cold laugh.
This idiot actually thought he had a shot with the Walton younger heiress?
She wasted no time pulling Aurora over to listen.
Megan looped her arm around Aurora’s, her lips curling in a mocking smile.
Her eyes gleamed with amusement. “Tsk tsk, if I remember correctly, Joseph already has a girlfriend. Not that it matters–cheating’s second nature to him. Pretty sure he’d break out in hives if he stayed faithful for once.”
Joseph remained smug. “What do you know? Women love a man with options. Walton’s heiress wants someone like me.”
With that, he strode into the banquet hall, his expression filled with anticipation, eyes gleaming as he licked his lips.
He was ready to welcome the legendary Walton younger heiress.

But as time passed, she was nowhere to be seen.
Whispers filled the room.
“Why isn’t the Walton younger heiress here yet?”
“Yeah, where is she? Don’t tell me she’s not coming.”
Just then, Aurora walked in, her arm linked with Megan’s.

Groups of three to five clustered together, most of them discussing the Vanguard Group project. Every major family wanted a piece of it, but landing it was another story.
A sharp–eyed guest immediately noticed Aurora and raised his voice.
