Aurora instinctively wanted to stop him, but Lucas grasped her wrist before she could move.
The warmth of his touch sent a fleeting sense of calm through her heart.
Joseph called the police, distorting the truth as he exaggerated his version of events.
He conveniently left out his own despicable behavior.
After hanging up, he remained seated on the ground, his gaze dark and venomous as he glared at them.
“The cops are on their way. Aurora, you enjoy keeping a boy toy, huh? Let’s see how you manage to protect him this time. I refuse to believe you can bribe the police too!”
He let out a malicious laugh, his expression twisted with satisfaction.
Lucas, however, remained completely unfazed. He casually pulled out his phone, typed a message, and sent it before waiting patiently for the authorities to arrive.
The police arrived swiftly.
The moment Joseph saw the uniformed officers, he scrambled to his feet, launching into an exaggerated plea for justice.
He pointed at his bruised and swollen face, hoping to win their sympathy.
“It was that woman! She ordered it! She’s the mastermind, and that pretty boy beside her is her accomplice. Officer, arrest them immediately and lock them up for a few days. Their actions are downright criminal!”
After listening to his version of events, the officers glanced at Aurora before calmly pulling out a pair of handcuffs.
Just as Aurora opened her mouth to explain, she suddenly heard the clinking sound of metal-
The handcuffs weren’t for her.
In one swift motion, the officers restrained Joseph instead, preventing him from struggling.‘
“You–You’ve got the wrong person! I was the one who called you!”
Joseph was too stunned to react, only realizing what was happening as he was forcibly pulled toward the exit.
“You’ll find out at the station whether there’s been a mistake. Enough talking, move it!”
The officer’s tone was strict and brooked no argument. Without further delay, they escorted Joseph away.
Aurora stood frozen, momentarily bewildered by the sudden turn of events.
By all logic, shouldn’t she and Lucas have been the ones taken in for questioning?
Watching the police leave with Joseph, Lucas finally turned to her, gently clasping her wrist as he led her to the car.
“Let’s go home,” he said softly.
His movements were effortless as he leaned over and buckled her seatbelt for her.
On the drive back, Aurora remained perplexed. Her gaze lingered on the man beside her, filled with curiosity.

She hesitated, unsure how to phrase her question.

By the time she stepped out of the bathroom, Lucas was already asleep.
His long lashes trembled slightly, a faint crease forming between his brows–even in sleep, he was frowning. Aurora hesitated for a moment before gently pressing her fingertip against the crease in his brow.
The warmth of his skin startled her, sending a strange jolt through her fingers as if she had been electrocuted. Lucas really was ridiculously handsome.
She muttered to herself about how he was nothing short of an enchanting devil, then lay down beside him. More than anything, she just felt helpless.
