She had been gone from the company for quite some time now, and yet Grace hadn’t reached out, not even once.
Aurora had been secretly hoping her mother might soften, send her a message, ask her to come back and keep working.

Aurora pressed her lips into a thin line and tucked her phone away, walking on in silence, her expression bleak and quietly miserable.
She looked like a lost soul on the street until a sleek sports car slowed beside her.
Behind the wheel was Joseph, with Judy in the passenger seat.
Joseph was driving with dark sunglasses perched on his nose, his hair slicked back to reveal a clean, confident forehead.
He hadn’t changed much, but there was something different now. He carried himself with a kind of smug confidence.
That was Aurora’s first thought when she saw him again.
And when Joseph saw Aurora in such a pitiful, beaten–down state, he couldn’t help but mock her, his tone dripping with amusement.
“Well, well, who do we have here? Isn’t this our famous Miss Aurora Walton?”
“What happened? You look like you’ve hit rock bottom, wandering alone by the river?
Aurora let out a cold laugh, but seeing the smug satisfaction on his face, she found herself at a loss for words.
So, it was true–being decent would make anyone an easy target.
Judy sat smugly in the passenger seat, arms crossed, looking down at Aurora with a self–satisfied sneer.
She could only hope Aurora had truly fallen from grace.
That way, she’d finally have a legitimate reason to mock her outright.
As long as Aurora was suffering, Judy would be delighted.
“Aurora, I used to think that as the second heiress of the Walton family, your life would be on the upswing. I never imagined I’d see you wandering alone by the river like this… how pitiful.”
Her tone was soft and syrupy. “If you’re really struggling, why don’t we give you a lift? We’ve got a car, after all.”
Aurora exhaled sharply, the glint in her eyes darkening with barely concealed fury.
She was already in a foul mood, and now this?

Taking a deep breath, she snapped, “Then drive on. What the hell does that have to do with me? It’s just a car–what, you think that gives you some kind of superiority?”
“And you.” She shot a glare at Judy. “Clinging to a man to climb the ladder, now sitting in the front seat acting like you’ve won something?”
Aurora let out a scornful laugh, gave a thumbs–down with a flick of her hand, then turned and walked off without looking back.
