At first, Lucas wore his usual calm, indifferent expression.
But as soon as he saw the content on Aurora’s screen, his entire demeanor shifted.
Wait a minute, hadn’t he already told Desmond to suppress this topic?
Why was it still trending? And worse, why were people now speculating even more wildly than before?
His gaze darkened, and his jaw tightened.
What the hell was Desmond doing?
The man was clearly slacking off.
Maybe it was time to start docking his pay a little more often.
He was getting too comfortable.
Aurora frowned, noticing the unease on Lucas‘ face.
“What’s going on? I already posted everything–so why are people still questioning your identity?”
Lucas feigned surprise, pretending he had just noticed. “People online love to make things up. Maybe they’re just bored.”
But Aurora kept scrolling through the comments, her brows furrowing deeper with each one until she abruptly stopped.
Her red lips parted slightly, and her voice slipped out in a whisper.
“Doesn’t anyone else think he looks kind of familiar?”
She began reading the comments aloud.
“I agree, it’s not just the face–it’s the whole aura. He feels familiar.”
“Forget his looks. I’d bet money this guy’s background isn’t ordinary.”
“What are y’all even guessing for? Aurora was born into wealth. You really think she’d end up with some random man?”
That last comment got a flood of agreement. Everyone seemed to be circling the same suspicion.
Aurora narrowed her eyes and turned to Lucas, studying him closely.
“Why is everyone questioning your background?”
Then, without missing a beat, she added, “Don’t tell me… you really are hiding something from me?”
Lucas‘ eyes widened slightly, especially when he met those clear, earnest eyes–it hit him with a strange sense of guilt.
He didn’t know what to say.
But he did know one thing-

If he didn’t explain something now, she wouldn’t let it go.
If they let this drag on, it would only lead to more misunderstandings and friction between them.
Instead of letting those doubts fester, Lucas figured it was best to shut them down before they tookroot.
With that thought, he reached over and swiftly took Aurora’s phone from her hands.
“Alright, it’s late. Stop looking at all this nonsense.”
He spoke casually, as if it were nothing serious. “You know how the internet is–half of it’s just noise. You can’t tell what’s real and what’s not.”
“You’re right.”
Aurora glanced at him, seeing how composed he was, and ended up believing him.
After all, most things online were exaggerated or flat–out fake. It was better to focus on the person right in front of her than get caught up in speculation.
Lucas felt a twinge of guilt watching her so readily trust him.
But now wasn’t the time for explanations–anything he said would only complicate matters further. Why invite trouble?
*So, how about we get some rest?”
He reached over and moved her phone even farther away, placing it well out of reach.
Aurora didn’t object.
He was right–there was no point continuing to scroll at this hour.
