Chapter 20
Evangelina’s POV
“Alright Gavin. I need to make sure we have enough forces. How many rogues were there?” I
ask.
“I..I don’t know maybe 200, but half of them are gifted, that is what is killing us. They surrounded us on all sides.” He says sadly. I nod my head and try to figure out what I need to
- do. I reach in my mind and picture the Whispering Meadows pack, asking the goddess to give me some guidance on what to do. The only thing I am given is blood shed on the battlefield. I
sigh, rubbing my temples.
“Gather all of our warriors and have them transported just outside the east side of the
territory. I will reach out to the allied subgroups to see if they can help.” I order and grab my
cell phone, stepping outside of the veil to receive cell service. I called a total of 5 subgroups, 2
of which agreed to support us on the west side, and one other on the north, they are going to
make sure that no rogues are able to escape on those sides and come in for support if
needed.
“Alpha the warriors are being transported now.” Linc informs me and I hurry back to Beta
Gavin and the others.
“Gavin, can you transport us to the east territory border?” I ask and he nods his head. I grab
Marie’s hand and Henry quickly grabs hers. Surprising both of us.
Before anything could be said Gavin transports us to the east border and I see all of my
warriors awaiting my orders.
“Wait until I give the command.” I say and look towards Gavin. “Take me to the middle of the
battlefield.” I instruct and he grabs my arm, transporting us to the battlefield. When we arrive it
takes me a moment to gather my thoughts. There are members being thrown around in the air by a rogue with a gift of wind, another group that can’t move because they are tied up with
vines. As I look on it seems that the invaders are just rogues, no help from other packs or anything of the such. It seems that because many of the rogues are gifted the pack is falling. This pack doesn’t have as many gifted members as other packs.
The rogues are pushing the fighting members in a circle, trying to capture them and kill them all off at once.
“Everyone prepare for transport.” I inform my pack though the mindlink. I then send a

visualization of where I want each transporter. Seconds later the transporters bring in my
warriors and the real chaos begins.

The rogues are surprised, but not enough to affect their abilities. They all try to quickly jumble their circle they were creating around the pack, but to no avail. The tables have turned and they are now surrounded by my warriors and the pack’s warriors on the inside and out. There is no chance to run, only fight. I spot the Alpha and see that he is taking on 3 of the rogues, in
combat. I reach for the future and see another rogue pulling out the Alpha’s heart with a green
vine.
I quickly find the rogue and before he could summon the vine, Veena lets out a ferocious roar and we shift. Attacking the rogue and saving the alpha. People around me tremble at my wolf, but we don’t make any decisions to comfort them. This is a battle.
Veena moves from rogue to rogue, ripping them to shreds. After killing about 20 rogues a
voice stops me in my tracks.
“I finally found you, beautiful.” Veena growls and snaps her head in the direction of the voice. I don’t recognize the man, but I recognize his voice.
“Don’t tell me you have forgotten about me, my love.” He says. I don’t know how he is doing it but there seems to be a barrier that nobody can enter. People are fighting around us and bouncing off of the shield. Veena crouches, ready to attack the man and growls.
“It seems you have forgotten. Let me show you.” He says and I am flashed snippets of memories. All of him and me. Him feeding me, taking care of my wounds, doting on me, but in each of the memories I had chains around my ankles and hands. I am pulled back from the slideshow, with the man standing right in front of me. I look at him. He is tall and lanky, has a little gray poking through the black slicked back hair. His beard is neatly trimmed. I’d say he is anywhere between 40 and 80, given that we can live up to 200 years old it is hard to tell how old a wolf is. I stare into this man’s seeming black eyes while Veena continues growling.
“Oh don’t be like that. You will see sooner or later, my queen, that you are mine. You were made for me.” He says darkly and a person appears inside the shield and takes his arm.
“It was lovely seeing you again, my love. It won’t be so long next time.” He then disappears, along with the shield around him. What the hell was that?
Linc runs up to me with a short sleeved t–shirt.
“All the rogues are dead or were transported away.” He informs me and Veena nods our head. I shifted back to my human form and put the shirt that Linc handed me on.

“What the hell was that?” He asked as soon as I turned to face him.
“I.. I don’t know.” I answer truthfully.

“Thank you Alpha Evan for aiding us in the attack.” I hear from behind me and I turn to see the older alpha of the whispering meadows pack.
“It was no issue at all, Alpha. How many were lost?” I ask and he looks down.
“Almost all of my warriors. What you saw when you arrived were the warriors in training and some skilled pack members fighting. I can’t say for certain until we count, but I would say we lost over 100 of our almost 300 pack members.” He said sadly. I let out a shaky breath. That is
not good.
“Alpha Evan.” The Alpha says while looking around to see what was left of his pack members exiting what must be the safe bunker.
I look around to see all of the buildings are destroyed and or are burning from fire. Then look towards the Alpha. “Would you take my pack?” He asks with tears in his eyes. I sigh and look around. We are almost at max capacity in the veil as is, but they need a place to stay.
“You need to be more clear on what you are asking Alpha Maxwell.” I state. There are many ways to interpret his question. He sighs and looks down.
“I am tired, Alpha Evan. We just lost our homes and pack house. There is nowhere for us to go. Our allied packs would take us, but I want to spend time with my family without worrying about the safety of my family. As you know my mate is a witch and our children are hybrids. Your pack is welcoming to all species. I want a life where I don’t have to worry if other packs don’t want to trade with us or if they might attack us because they don’t agree with my mate and children.” He says and I meet his sad eyes. “Please take me and my pack in. You are a true alpha and I will gladly take a knee before you.” He says, while taking a knee and bowing his head to me. His pack follows suit and I sigh kneeling before the alpha. I raise his head to
meet his tired yellow eyes.
“Alpha Maxwell. I appreciate the gesture, but how about you keep your pack and I assist you in rebuilding it.” I offer and he shakes his head.
“I don’t want to rebuild. This was the last straw. It might not have been the reason for this attack, but we have been getting very hostile messages from other packs. They don’t agree with my mate being a witch and my children being hybrids. I am done looking over my shoulder in fear that people don’t agree with my mate. You are a good Alpha, I already turn to you for help and advice. I would like to join your pack.” He says definitively. I get up and grab his arms to follow me up.

“If that is what you wish then you may join my pack.” I say and he surprises me by hugging me. I awkwardly pat his back, not knowing what to do.
“Thank you. You won’t regret it.” He says and turns to everybody.
“I, Alpha Maxwell Ryan Meadow, hereby step down as the alpha of the Whispering Meadows pack and hand over my title to Alpha Evan.” He says and I see him grimace in pain from stepping down.
“I willingly accept your pack and they are now one with mine.” I say back and I feel his pack
connect with mine. I look over at his people who are emotional.
“If you do not agree with me being your Alpha you are free to decide. You can leave if you wish.” I say to them, some people are shocked that I would give them an option to leave. They all shake their heads then turn them to the side, showing me they view me as their superior.
“Good. Now first things first. Do not ever submit to me like that again. I am your equal, not
your superior. I am Alpha, yes, but you will come to see that my pack is very different from yours.” I say and see looks of surprise and hear people start to mumble.
“Alright, let’s get everybody home.”I say and nod to my transporters. They start to take the
max they can and when they come back a few more transports show up with them. They
must have mindlinked for.help porteling all of these people. As I wait my turn Marie comes up
beside me.
“How are we going to house all of these people?” She asks.
“I have been working with our fae, hybrids and witches to figure out how to expand the veil. We
have figured out a way to use fae magic to expand it.” I say and her eyes narrow.
“Will it work?” She asks.
“We will see.” I say.
