Chapter 19
Evangelina’s POV
“Do you have any other questions that I can answer?” I ask.
Before he speaks I grimace as small tingles start to form in my heart. I begin to rub my chest in hopes that it would go away, but it never does. The tingles turn into what feels like small bolts of electricity zapping me everywhere under my skin. I continue rubbing my chest and take deep breaths, knowing that the feeling will go away soon.
“Are you okay?” Henry asks in concern.
“Fine. Just give me a minute.” I grit as the electric shocks grow stronger, signaling that my mate is almost done. After a few more minutes of the pain it goes away. And I wipe my sweaty forehead. I look toward the clock and realize that it only lasted 10 minutes this time. It seems that the pain started well after my mate and his lover started their interaction. It gets
shorter each time.
I look to Henry and his blue eyes are cast down.
“I am sorry.” He says, guiltily.
“For what?” I ask in confusion.
“Linc said that you get the betrayal pains from your mate cheating on you.” He says
reluctantly.
“Why would he tell you that?” I ask, clearly irritated that my business has been given without
my permission.
“It’s not like that. I just witnessed it once last week when we were all doing our late night
sparring. You had a look of pain on your face and weren’t giving 100 like you normally do.
asked him later what that was about and if you were okay. He told me then.” He says and I
sigh.
“I understand your concern for me, but this is nothing for you to apologize about. My mate made his choice and we have to live with the consequences.” I say and he shakes his head.
“No. I should have tried to convince him to give the mate bond a chance. You don’t deserve
this.” He says.
“If it is anybody’s fault it is mine, Henry. You have nothing to be upset about. Nothing you said would have changed his mind.” I try to reassure him.

“It isn’t your fault. It’s Warrick’s. He couldn’t see past the fact that you are a rogue.” He says
and I wince remembering the vision I had of Warrick rejecting me.
“Henry, I knew that he was planning on rejecting me and what would come if he did. I chose not to give him my name. I chose to receive the pain.” I say and he shakes his head.
“No. If only he gave you a chance.” He said and I sigh.
“Henry, his reasoning is understandable. He was having a hard enough time hiding his pain when he asked me for my name. His decision, whether it may look like it or not, hurt him. But
he made it for a reason.” I say.
“You are too good of a person.” He says and I chuckle.
“I am only doing what is right and treating people how they deserve.” I answer.
“He doesn’t deserve your forgiveness or understanding, yet you still give it.” He says.
“I have come to learn that you are in control of your emotions. You choose to feel a certain
way. Yes I could be angry and demand vengeance on every person who has wronged me, but I
choose to look at each situation in another light. It costs nothing to be content, happy and
understanding, but it costs everything to be angry and irrational.” I say and he smiles slightly.
“You are right. I have never thought of it that way.” He says and I nod.
“Is there anything else that you needed from me?” I ask and he takes a moment to think.
“No. I just want to thank you for letting us come here and be willing to train us. Especially with
what you have revealed about the royal pack.” He says and I smile.
“It’s no problem. If you need anything else, you know where to find me.” I say gesturing around
my desk full of papers.
“Do you need any help?” He asks and I look around my desk.
“Actually if you’re not tired you could separate the stack of requests into different categories. I normally have Linc or Marie do it before I go through them, but they have been busy as of late with other things.” I say and he nods his head then grabs the stack and takes a seat on the loveseat and pulls the coffee table closer to separate the papers.
After about 20 minutes of sitting in silence I get a mindlink.
“Alpha, we need you at the veil as soon as possible.” Hoss said, panicked. I jump up from my
seat, startling Henry.
“Everything okay?” He asks and I shake my head.

“There’s a problem at the veil entrance.” I say while I start to run through the door. Henry drops
the stack of papers and runs behind me.
“I need you two to meet me at the veil.” I mindlink Linc and Maire.
“I am here, Marie went to get Tasha.” Linc informs me and I don’t stop to question what is
ng on.
Tasha is a wolf and witch hybrid. Her father, the alpha of Whispering Meadows pack sent her here when her witch power emerged at the age of 16 for her safety. She has been here for the
past 2 years, visiting her pack on and off since then.
I reach the veil to see a man holding a child in front of it shouting.
“I know you’re here! I need to see your Alpha please!” He begs.
“I recognized him at the Whispering Meadows pack Beta. That is why I sent Marie to get Tasha.” Linc says as soon as I enter hearing distance. I look at Hoss on top of the guard
tower.
“Open the veil.” I say and he nods his head and the veil opens. The Beta jumps when the veil
opens, but doesn’t question it. He is the one who comes to collect Tasha when she visits
home. When his pink eyes meet mine he rushes forward, child in tow.
“Alpha Evan. We need assistance quickly.” He rushes out.
“Beta Gavin. We need you to calm down and tell us what is going on.” I say in a calm tone. He takes a deep breath and glances down at the small boy in his arms.
“We are being attacked by rogues and need help. Alpha sent me here with his son to ensure his safety and gather the help we can.” He rushes out. Marie and Tasha then run up, catching the end of his statement.
“Brody.” Tasha exclaims at the child the Beta is holding and reaches out for him. “We need to go help them.” She pleads to me.
“Don’t worry we will. Take your brother back to your room and care for him. I will gather the resources we need to help your pack.” I say and she nods, cooing the now crying child.
There is always a calm before the storm. That is what this past month has been, calm.
