Chapter35
Ziana’s POV
Breakfast was good. I made a plate for Leo and a few of the other orphans who followed us down to the dining room. Leo sat on my lap the whole time and while Kai left to go lead training, Áddie came down and joined us.
Killian asked me to come to his office when we were done. Addie is taking the kids to school, then
volunteered to watch Leo for the day.
I walk into the office, Killian and Zane stop speaking and look at me as I walk in.
“What’s up?” I ask as I plop down on the two person seat. They both watch me, spiking my nerves.
“First. I have been struggling with blaming myself for not knowing what was happening at the orphanage, but I want to explain something. I understand why you did what you did yesterday, but the beating went too far. Next time I need you to mindlink me if something like yesterday ever happens again. I saw you yesterday and I need to make sure that the darkness doesn’t take over like it did yesterday.” Killian begins and I feel a rumble begin in my chest as the darkness begins to stir. I also feel an added agitation that doesn’t seem like it’s from me. I look at Zane, but he doesn’t seem annoyed, just concerned.
“Second we need to figure out what happens to the children. As of right now they will be staying at the pack
house.” Zane says.
“If everything goes the way I think it is going to go tomorrow night, then I have an idea on what to do.” I say and they look at me in surprise, but listen as I tell them what I would like to do. They readily agree, which makes me happier than I care to admit. We then start to discuss the missing woman. As they are telling me the direction the kidnappers were lost, the door opens slowly and gains our attention.
We watch as a little head of dirty blonde hair pokes around the door and bright purples eyes look in. The door swings open as the eyes land on me and Leo comes running in and jumps on me. He pulls away and holds out his hand, revealing a picture. It’s a stick figure drawing. One is a woman with black hair and purple eyes, and the other is a boy with dark yellow hair and purple eyes. They are holding hands and standing on grass, with a bright blue sky behind them.
“Oh my. Leo, did you draw this?” I ask and he nods excitedly.
“For you.” He says with a grin. I have learned that he is a kid of very few words.
“Thank you so much! I am going to hang it up in my room.” I say and hug him. “Where is Addie?” I ask and his face turns guilty.
“Did you run away from her?” I ask and he shakes his head then turns towards the door as Addie walks in and
shakes her head.
“Leo. I told you that we would find her later.” Addie says and he shrugs then grabs my neck and holds tight. “Leo. How about you and Addie go watch a movie and we can go play later. Would you be okay with that?” I ask and he lets go, eyeing me skeptically. “We can do whatever you want. I promise.” I say and he nods, then kisses my cheek and runs to Addie, dragging her out and waving at me on the way out. I smile watching the
scene and look back at the picture.

“You’re good with him.” Zane comments and I nod.
“Would you want to adopt him?” Killian asks. I look up into his eyes to see that he is not joking.
“You’re serious.” I state in disbelief.
“Yeah. You two are good together. The way you helped him this morning was amazing and he is obviously smitten with you.” Killian explains not seeing an issue with any of what he is saying.
“Are you crazy?” I ask in disbelief and I see the slight regret flash in his eyes, then a blush make its way up his neck. “What? You think I just adopt him, when I don’t have a clue on how to be a mother?” I ask and he shakes his head.
“1.1 thought that we all could adopt him.” He tries to explain and I just stare at him. The butterflies in my stomach do a flip, but I also feel like I want to throw up.
“And what? The four of us just be a happy family? When we can’t even be mates?” I ask and I see his eyebrows scrunch in frustration.
“You’re the one who won’t give us a chance. We are soulmates.” Killian argues and I fight the urge to scream.
“I can’t.” I say and stand up. Zane grabs my wrist.
“Please.” He begs, putting so much raw emotion into the one word that it tears me apart from the inside. I pull my wrist out of his grasp and shake my head.
“I can’t.” I say again and begin to walk towards the door. My eyes are filled with tears, but I won’t let them fall. Not yet.
“Does this have something to do with your scars?” Killian asks, forcing me to stop midway to the door. I turn and look at him, my anger rising.
“What did you just say?” I ask and he stands up, walking around his desk and leaning against it.
“Your scars. Are you afraid that we won’t find you attractive?” He asks, causing my jaw to drop.
“Are you serious right now?” I ask and he shrugs.
“When have you even seen them?” I ask, because I sure as hell have made sure to not show any areas I am
self conscious about.
“You have them all over your arms. I saw one on your leg and Zane saw one on your shoulder. If that’s what you are conscious about, you shouldn’t worry about it. We don’t care, it only makes you more unique and beautiful.” Killian explains, my anger hitches.
“Are you f*cking kidding me?! You think THAT’S why I won’t give you a chance?!” I yell, the light flickering.
“THEN WHY?! YOU WON’T TALK TO US!” Killian yells, throwing his hands up in the air in exasperation.
“Maybe it is because you CHAINED me to the freaking WALL like some animal!” I yell, while Killian is shaking his head.
“It started before then and you know it. You were going to reject me when we first met.” Killian counters. I shake my head as a tear trails down my face.
“No.” I whisper. Zane is standing now too.
“Tell us. Ziana please.” He begs, yellow eyes, gleaming with unshed tears. I shake my head.

“WHY? Why won’t you give us a chance? It’s killing us. Can’t you tell? Or don’t you care?” Killian says and I can’t take it anymore.
“You’ll hate me anyway. It’s better this way.” I say and turn trying to leave, but am stopped by Zane’s hand on my wrist again.
“What do you mean?” He asks, turning me to face him again. I didn’t hear Killian move closer, but he is next to me now too.
“I can’t. Please don’t.” I say, almost beg.
“Ziana.” Killian growls and I shake. Looking between the two of them. They are worried, anxious, and sad.
“I killed them.” I whisper, as tears begin the stream down my face. I see their confusion.
“Who?” They both ask quietly and I look at them. Their mother’s faces flashing before me.
“Your mothers.” I whisper even quieter than the first, but I know they heard me.
“What?” Zane whispers back. They heard me, they had to, but I looked up into their eyes. It hasn’t hit them
yet.
“I killed your mothers. Rose and Lilly. I was the reason they were taken, I was the one who killed them, and I
was a part of the attack on your pack, killing your pack members.” I state calmly. I give them a minute to
comprehend what I am saying. I know as soon as it does because Killian storms out of the office, slamming
the door behind him. Zane’s eyes are full of tears as he stares at me.
