Chapter 112
Evangelina’s POV
“You did well, my child.” I hear. I open my eyes to see a bright field covered in colorful wildflowers. I sit up, looking to my right and see Veena curled up next to a sitting, beautiful woman with long, white hair.
“Mother moon.” I whisper and bow to show my respects. She chuckles and stands up, walking towards me and pulling me close for an embrace.
“Thank you. For saving my children, Evangelina.” Mother moon says, squeezing me and pulling back to look me in the eyes. Her deep, glowing, silver eyes boring into mine.
“Are you taking me with you? Is that why you are here?” I ask sadly. She smiles and shakes her head.
“Why in all the realms would I do that, child?” She asks and I shrug.
“You never said what would happen after the war.” I answer and she tisks at me in a motherly way, that says you should know better than that‘.
“Fate and I sent you a vision that said you would live if you were mated to Warrick and won the war. Did we
not?” She asks.
“You did.” I answer and look down. Like a small child who is in trouble.
“I came to speak with you darling.” She says as she steers me toward Veena, who has barely moved from her spot prior. We sit beside her, on the lush grass and stroke her fur. She is purring now.
“I came to let you know that Fate and I will be dimming your powers. You will still have them, but they will be less potent. Maybe a spark for fire or a zing for electricity. We cannot take them all together because it would kill you. And you, my child, are just getting started with the work in the realm. You and Warrick will make an excellent team.” She says and I nod my head in understanding.
“Now. The knowledge will begin to fade, but it will still be there. Just as when people get older, they lose memories or words, you will lose some of the knowledge given to you.” My eyes widen as I begin to panic.
“Do not fret too much about it though. I know that you have written everything down in books. And it won’t affect anything you would have naturally grown to acquire.” She explains.
“Okay.” I say, more than relieved that I won’t have the knowledge and vocabulary of a 4 year old. She smiles sadly at me, her bright silver eyes dimming.
“We have acquired many souls on this day. One of which I know you personally take responsibility for.” She says as my eyes begin to water.
“Jaxon.” I whisper and she nods her head.
“Sweet child, it was not your fault. Franklin was going to retrieve Ziana when he saw her join the battle. Jaxon stepped in and Franklin took him instead. Jaxon knew that it was his time and he gladly stepped up to save Ziana. Knowing that losing her would also mean losing you.” She answers as I put pieces together in my head, slowly but surely.
“You. You told him. Didn’t you?” I ask and she nods her head.
“I did. And it was his choice. As you have said before, you would let a person make that choice to sacrifice

themselves if they knew the information. Jaxon knew and he chose. He chose to save your life and Zlana’s by sacrificing himself.” She explains. I can’t help the tears that escape. I have said that. As long as people know the outcome and all of the details, I would let them make their decision and wouldn’t interfere.
“Evan.” I hear and look toward my left to see a mass of brown hair and orange eyes greeting me happily. I
stand up and race toward the man, him catching me in a tight embrace.
“Jaxon.” I say, muffled, into his chest.

“Mother moon thought it would be best if we got to have a proper goodbye. I’ve already visited Warrick.” He says and I pull back to see a sirene smile on his face.
“You really chose to sacrifice yourself?” I ask and he nods happily.
“I did. You Evangelina are too important to die. I knew that after I got to know you and saw the change you brought out in Warrick. You make him a better man, one that I was becoming proud to serve again. He is a boat and you are his anchor. Please keep him steady, Evan. Make this kingdom a place where all people are proud to call it home.” He says and he hugs me again and kisses my forehead.
“Goodbye, Evan.” He says and I squeeze tighter.
“Goodbye, Jaxon. Thank you.” I whisper as tears fall and he disappears. I turn towards mother moon and she is smiling sadly. She places a warm hand on my cheek and brushes her thumb across my cheekbone,
lovingly.
“I know it is hard to say goodbye, but don’t cry. For he is with me now.” She says and I nod, trying to suck in the tears, but it isn’t working.
“Evangelina, you are strong. Ziana will wake in four days. Before that time you will need to pull yourself together and help clean and prepare the pack for the new beginning. Ziana has been through a lot of hard times and she may be rough around the edges, but she is a good person on the inside. Please be patient with her and let her find her way. Help her in any way you can and continue to be understanding.” Mother moon says and I nod.
“Of course.” I answer, my voice cracking at the end and she nods her head.
“I will leave you here to heal. You will wake when your body says it is time. I love you, my child.” She says and disappears, leaving me to walk back to Veena who looks up at me.
“Human.” She says and I smile.
“Wolf.” I greet her back and she snorts.
“Let’s relax so we can heal and get back to our mate.” She says and I can’t help but agree. Laying down beside her and closing my eyes, enjoying the warmth of the sun.
