Alice had only made the kind of mistake any woman could make. 

Did they really need to keep bringing it up over and over? 

Right now, she was beyond exasperated. 

That darn marriage certificate was becoming such a hassle. 

Eric could tell she was trying to get rid of him, and a shadow flickered in his eyes. 

But he didn’t press on about last night. 

Instead, he asked, “Aren’t you heading to the IT forum today?” 

Alice nodded quickly, relieved by the change of topic. 

Finally! She thought she might suffocate from the tension. 

“Why do you look so grim? Is there something wrong with the forum?” she asked. 

Eric didn’t answer right away. 

The truth was, his heavy expression had nothing to do with the forum–he was still stuck on her earlier heartbreaker statement. 

He paused, collecting himself. 

“You’re sleeping in the junior bed tonight.” 

Alice looked like she’d just been sentenced. 

“What? Why?” 

It’s hard to downgrade once you’ve had the best. 

Who in their right mind would choose a secondary bed when they could stretch out on a plush king? 

Eric’s tone had just a hint of bitterness. 

“You drooled in your sleep. Ruined three sets of sheets.” 

Alice was shocked. “What?” 

Was her dignity not worth anything? 

“Whatever. I’m going to check if/Daniel made breakfast.” 

No way was she touching the breakfast Eric brought earlier–it was way too hot, probably capable of burning a hole in her tongue/ 

She dashed out like her life depended on it, afraid that staying even a second longer might kill her from

Watching her flee, Eric’s lips curled into a sinirk. 

Time passed quickly, and soon it was the day Risa would be selecting the cast. 

Janice handed Alice the schedule, reminding her to show up on time at the forum. 

Alice gave her an okay gesture. “If anything weird happens, call me.” 

Speaking of calls, she vaguely remembered getting one the night she got drunk, but she couldn’t recall what it was about. 

Whatever. Probably nothing important. 

She had no idea that the director at St. Anne Hospital was practically losing his mind. 

Shrugging off the thought, she hopped in her car and drove to the set. 

Risa was already there, sitting in the makeup chair while a makeup artist worked on her. 

They were going for a career woman look today. 

But Risa didn’t look great–like she’d just been drained by 18 guys in a row. 

Alice instinctively reached out and grabbed her wrist. 

“You’ve got to be kidding me. You really overdid it this time.” 

Risa rolled her eyes. 

“That’s the kind of trouble that comes with being blissfully happy. You wouldn’t understand.” 

Alice shut her mouth. 

That didn’t sound like trouble. That sounded like a near–death experience. 

“You’re on Ms. Spencer now,” Risa called to another makeup artist. 

The second artist stepped forward and glanced at Alice. Her mind instantly pulled up a photo from her email, and it clicked–this was the same woman. 

She looked down and opened the makeup case. 

Inside were two neatly organized sets of cosmetics. 

She hesitated, then reached for the one on the left. 

Taking a deep breath, she picked up a brush and moved toward Alice’s face, 

But just before the bristles could touch her skin, Alice turned her head slightly, dodging the motion.

The makeup artist froze. 

Then, trying to keep calm, she asked carefully, “Ms. Spencer, is there something else you’d prefer?” 

Risa was a legend in this industry.

So when it came to the fact that Alice was her friend–though most found it hard to believe–no one dared to question it. In front of Risa, everyone treated Alice with the utmost respect. 

Alice looked at the makeup artist through the mirror. The woman’s forced calm was falling apart. 

She gave a slow, cold smile–one that could chill the air. 

The makeup artist shivered and quickly dropped her gaze, unable to meet Alice’s eyes. 

Since the makeup room offered privacy–only the star and the makeup artist were allowed in–there was no need to hold back. 

Alice’s tone was calm, but her words had weight. 

“I’m a doctor.” 

The statement wasn’t loud, but it landed like a hammer to the chest. 

The makeup artist’s eyes flicked to the left side of her makeup case. 

“You’re not cut out for this,” Alice said softly, but her voice held an edge. 

“You couldn’t handle the pressure.” 

The woman’s face drained of all color. 

It was obvious–Alice had seen right through her. 

“I… I don’t know what you mean, Ms. Spencer.” 

Alice stared at her reflection in the mirror and gently rubbed her nose. 

“Most people’s skin is sensitive. A strong acid would cause immediate reactions. 

“But the acid you prepared wasn’t concentrated enough to leave permanent damage. 

“In fact, I should probably thank you for showing a sliver of mercy.” 

Her words were wrapped in irony, her tone sharp and mocking. 

They didn’t care whether or not her face was scarred–what they really wanted was to humiliate her. 

At least this makeup artist still had a shred of conscience. 

Otherwise, Alice wouldn’t be standing here having this conversation so calmly, 

The makeup artist stared back at her, stunned and trembling, either from fear or shock–probably both.
