Chapter 166 The Revelation
He was thunderstruck. A blow came from nowhere.
How could this be?
Gary stared hard at the scanner, refusing to believe what it was telling him.
He even started wondering if the machine had broken–anything but accept that Alice could possibly be that capable.
Gasps and murmurs rippled through the crowd.
“No way. A country girl like her is so gifted.”
“Honestly, it makes sense. Otherwise, Mr. Eric would file for divorce the moment he woke up.”
“Exactly. High society always marries within their class. It’s all business, no emotion.”
“If Alice is Ghostwing, I swear I’m going to lose my mind.”
“Wait! Something still feels off.”
By now, no one was paying attention to the live broadcast anymore.
The host, usually composed and experienced, stood frozen. He couldn’t think of a single word to ease the tension.
Silence settled like fog–heavy and unnatural.
All except the machine, which kept repeating in its cold, mechanical voice.
“Scan complete. Identity confirmed… Scan complete…”

Venom was the only one who still seemed to be thinking clearly.
He stepped forward again, tears shimmering in his eyes, lips trembling with a childlike sense of injustice.
“Alice.”
Alice nearly groaned. Another identity/reveal. Great. Just great.
Just when she thought the worst had/passed, here came Venom, trying to make things wo. Her head
started to throb.
Luckily, Eric seemed to read her mind. As Venom approached, Eric stepped in front of her, shielding her from view.
Venom’s eyes were full of desperate longing.
But Eric’s were ice cold.

“Her identity has been confirmed. Yours, however, is questionable. I suggest you head to the police station

and get yourself verified before claiming any ties with my wife.”
Venom blinked. “Huh?”
Daniel, catching on quickly, knew Eric was blocking a love rival–and that meant it was his cue to step in.
He approached with a polished smile.
“Mr. Venom, I hope you understand. Mrs. Nolan tends to attract attention. Some people are jealous of her. and bizarre things have happened lately. For her safety, we need to follow protocol.”
He spoke with exaggerated seriousness.
“You mentioned being taken to a police station after being abducted? I suggest you reach out to that department, request the case records, and verify your story. If everything checks out, contact the Nolan Group, and we’ll set up a meeting–on Mrs. Nolan’s schedule, of course.”
Daniel had said a whole lot, but the meaning boiled down to one thing: “Mrs. Nolan is amazing, but you need to back off.”
Venom looked more pitiful than ever, his eyes welling up with tears about to burst.
He gazed at Alice with a wounded look that mirrored that day years ago–when she’d left him at the police station and never came back for him.
Alice didn’t say a word.
Back then, she already knew this kid would be trouble. Now that he’d grown up? Still just as much of a troublemaker.
Just as Venom opened his mouth again, likely aiming for sympathy, someone in the crowd piped up.
“Maybe Mr. Reese knows Ghostwing but gave the invitation to Alice on purpose because he thinks highly of her?”
The voice disappeared as fast as it came. No one could even tell who said it.
Once again, all eyes turned to Byron.
He looked like he was ready to explode.
Seriously? Has my reputation sunk so low that no one believes a word I say?
Kate was trying hard not to laugh, teasing him lightly, “Maybe it’s time to take a good look in the mirror.”
Byron ignored her. He grabbed the host’s mic and turned back to the crowd, speaking with solemn resolve.
“I’ll vouch with my reputation. Ms. Spencer is Ghostwing.”
The declaration didn’t land quite the way he’d hoped.
A reporter among the audience raised a question.

“Ghostwings never make an appearance in public. Mr. Reese, you’re certainly credible, but surely your understand the need for a little verification.
This was clearly a setup.
Byron’s expression darkened.
“And what exactly are you proposing?”
The reporter gestured aside dramatically.
“I saw chess grandmaster Mr. Day arrive just now. Why not have Mrs. Nolan play a match against him? Then we can judge for ourselves.”
The crowd gasped audibly.
Everyone knew Humbert Day had been studying chess since childhood. The man had devoted his entire life to it.
Asking Alice to face off against someone like him felt downright cruel.
But Gary ignored those who tried to stop him. He brushed past them, stepped forward, eyes fixed on Alice.
“Would you accept the challenge?”
Alice gave a helpless shrug and said, “Nope.”
Seriously, could everyone just give it a rest?
She wasn’t here to show off. She was just looking for someone from the Ouroboros.
Besides, Humbert had once played her in an online match. And to be honest? The man was a nuisance. She had zero interest in wasting time on that clown again.
Gary’s expression, which had been stormy just seconds ago, began to clear up.
“So you admit it then-”
But another reporter interrupted loudly, “Ms. Spencer, if you refuse to play, does that mean you’re having an affair with Mr. Reese?”
The question was bold–borderline suicidal. Daniel’s glare could’ve cut steel, but the reporter wasn’t backing down.
Alice’s eyes narrowed, a dangerous glint flashing in them.
The reporter visibly shuddered, instinctively stepping back.
That look … it was the kind of feeling you got walking alone through a dark forest, realizing a tiger was quietly watching your every move.
