Daniel sighed and started the car.

When they arrived home, Irene was already waiting by the front door.
“You’ve taken control of the fashion department,” she said coldly. “Now it’s time to let him go, don’t you think?”
Alice didn’t even bother to fake politeness.
“Breaking the law comes with consequences. Jail time isn’t something Eric or I made up; it’s a matter of federal law.”
Irene didn’t care for the lecture.
“Eric, I know you’re upset with me. But when you got sick and couldn’t even move from that bed, what was. I supposed to do–watch the company crash and burn?”
She sighed. “Even if you hate me/I can understand that. But what did your uncles ever do wrong? If you go after them, don’t you think people will start looking down on our family?”
Eric’s voice was flat.
“I don’t care what they think.”

“Mr. Eric,” Henry said gently, stepping forward with a sigh.
“Earlier today, Mrs. Irene said that if you refused to let this go, she’d host her funeral.”
Alice let out a short, cold laugh.
“Sounds good to me.”
Henry grew a little awkward.
Shirley came over next, standing between them.
“I know there’s resentment on both sides, but if the family really starts to fall apart, you can bet outsiders will take full advantage of the chaos,” she said seriously.
“In the end, you’re still family. You need to stick together and look out for each other. A little power struggle is one thing, but tearing the whole foundation apart? That’s something the family fortune might not survive.”
She was earnest and respectful. But oddly enough, someone as loyal as her didn’t help up the bleeding

That seemed strange.
Alice’s lips curved into a smile.
“Shirley.”
“Yes, ma’am?”
“I just have one question. When Mrs. Irene said she’d host her funeral, did she mean like an official one with a service and a casket, or just right here on the spot?”

She stared at Alice, wide–eyed, in disbelief.
Did she really just say that?
It was cold. Unbelievably cold.

By the time Irene came to her senses, she was trembling with rage.
“Y–You’re cursing me to die!” she shouted.
The truth was, she hadn’t been eating well at the hospital. Her body was weak and frail.
Now, after all this drama, she looked completely exhausted.
But that rage gave her a flicker of color in her cheeks.

Alice smiled sweetly. “What do you/mean? Everyone watching the livestream says this is better than reality. TV. You’re the only one calling it a scene.”
She paused, then smiled wider.
“And your opinion doesn’t count.”
Shirley couldn’t argue with her.
