Chapter 106 Mobilizing Eugenia
Linda thought about it for a moment and let out a soft sight.
“Don’t judge a book by its cover. Sure, Alice grew up in the countryside, but that doesn’t mean she can’t
have a skill or two.”
What she really meant was that Alice was just some rural girl who probably hadn’t had much education–it was unlikely she was that racing star everyone admired.
But Boston suddenly spoke up.
“When we went to pick her up, roads
those
were pretty dangerous.”
Scott nodded. “Exactly. I was thinking the same thing. She might’ve grown up driving those roads. That’s how she learned.”
Boston didn’t really argue with that.
“So what? She only won last time because of luck. That car bumped her forward–otherwise you would’ve been champion.”
Scott shook his head.
He remembered exactly how it had gone down better than anyone.
Boston didn’t bother arguing anymore.
“Whatever. In a couple of days, that famous director Risa is coming here to cast for a movie. Levi and I are both going for the role. I’m gonna go prepare.”
Linda jumped in right away.
“Boston, you’re amazing. You’ve totally got this. Good luck!”
Boston instantly felt a lot better.
When Alice hung up the phone, it was quiet for a moment–until her computer chimed with a video call request.
She frowned and looked at the screen.
Then she immediately declined the call.
A moment later, her phone rang.
As soon as she answered, she heard someone practically roaring at her.
“Wow, real nice of you–just ran off without a word and left me to clean up your mess! Do you know I lost ten pounds on that shoot? And you don’t even pick up my video call? If I could see you right now, I’d bite your head off!”

The other person went on complaining in a hundred different ways.
Alice finally managed to get a word in. “Risa, did you come back just to find me?”
Risa Foster was her best friend back when she lived overseas. Both of them loved making movies, and after working together, they’d won countless awards and become international legends.
“Finding you is the main reason, but I’ve got a few other small things to handle. Send me your location- I’m coming over,” Risa said.
Alice checked the time. “I still have an hour left at work.”
Risa immediately started yelling.
“You’re working? You quit being a perfectly good director to do what, exactly?”
Alice instantly didn’t want to answer.
If she told Risa she was working for Nolan Group, Risa would laugh herself sick.
“Anyway, see you in an hour,” she said.
Risa burst out laughing.
“I knew it. You must be under someone’s thumb. Tell me–you lose a bet or something? Forced into manual labor?”
Alice felt awkward.
Risa was her best friend. Every time she tried to hide something, Risa always guessed it almost perfectly.
And this time, she was dead–on.
In Mapleford, Alice was posing as a simple country girl, trying to find the person who had hurt Eugenia. It was nearly impossible, but being Mrs. Nolan gave her all kinds of advantages.
Sure, she could reveal who she really was and people would rush to help her, but that would only alert the killer.
Three years ago, she’d already let them slip away once. This time she had to be absolutely careful.
“Let’s talk when we meet,” she said, and hung up right away so Risa wouldn’t get the chance to tease her
anymore.
After ending the call, she couldn’t calm down.
Eugenia had been hiding in the mountains for years.
People who didn’t know the truth thought she was dead, but in the end, the Spencers had seen Eugenia. If the old incident was dug up again, would the Spencers end up exposing where Eugenia was hiding? She thought it over for a long time, then booked Eugenia a plane ticket abroad and called her.

“Eugenia, I put together a whole travel plan for you. I’ve got the ticket ready too.”
Eugenia’s voice was as gentle as ever.
“I’m too old for that now. I just want to stay home, cat simply, and pray.”
Alice understood what she meant.
Eugenia didn’t want to go out and stir up any more trouble.
She’d given up on revenge and just wanted to finish her days in peace, but Alice knew the truth.
If Eugenia had really let go of her hatred, she wouldn’t keep that painting from her enemy in her room.
That painting was her reminder never to forget what had been done, but because she’d taken Alice in, she held back–she didn’t want to drag her into it.
“Alice, how’s life in Mapleford?”
“Eugenia, I got married.”
“Hm?”
Alice didn’t bother hiding anything.
“It’s a contract marriage.”
Eugenia didn’t seem too bothered by that.
“As long as you take care of yourself, that’s all that matters.”

Alice laughed. “I’m fine here, but I did stir up a little trouble overseas.”
Eugenia sounded a bit resigned. “So, this isn’t really about a vacation–it’s about helping you handle something?”
“Eugenia, please help me out.”
Eugenia let out a long sigh. “Alright. Send me everything, I’ll get ready and head out.”
Hearing Eugenia’s response, Alice finally felt relieved.
