Still feeling a mix of confusion and surprise, Adelaide gave her statement as Lyndon requested. She didn’t have to wait in the interrogation room and was free to move around.
So, she walked out of the police station and called Reginald.
“Mr. Thorton,” she said softly, her voice laced with gratitude.
“If it happens again, I’ll show up myself,” Reginald said coldly, his voice devoid of the lazy drawl he usually spoke with. “And I’m not gentle when I lay hands on people, Adelaide.”
Adelaide’s heart skipped a beat. “Thank you.” Just then, she caught sight of some familiar vehicles pulling up outside the station and quickly ended the call.
There were three cars in total.
Her parents, Spencer, and Garrett.
They all arrived at nearly the same time.
As soon as Jeanette got out of the car and saw Adelaide standing there unharmed, her anger flared. She stormed over, yelling, “You bitch! How dare you bully Mandy and get her arrested!”

Garrett moved faster than Spencer, stepping in front of
Adelaide.
There came a loud slap.
A hand landed on Garrett’s face.
Jeanette froze, stunned.
Adelaide remained expressionless.
Garrett was already getting slapped on his face many times. One more didn’t make a difference. His expression darkened as he said, “This is the police station. And Adele is my wife. I don’t want to repeat myself. If you ever think about hitting her again, remember she’s part of the Barnard family.”
Jeanette wasn’t happy about Garrett’s interposition.
Right behind her, Finley walked up with a sharp gaze and barked, “What do you think you’re doing? Are you trying to
make a scene in front of the police station? Stop being a joke and behave yourselves in public!”
“Mom, let’s go inside first,” Spencer said in a low voice, gently
taking her arm to guide her in.
Jeanette shot a venomous look at Adelaide before rushing in to check on her precious daughter.

Spencer stood by Adelaide’s side and said, “Adele, come with
me.”
Before she could move, Garrett quickly stepped in and seized
her wrist. He tried to win her over with a soft voice, “Babe…”
Adelaide didn’t want to deal with either of them. She shook off
Garrett’s hand without a word and walked into the station by
herself.
As she entered, Spencer glanced at Garrett with a mocking
smile. There was no respect in it at all.
Garrett clenched his teeth silently and followed them in.
Inside the police station, Amanda spotted her parents and immediately burst into tears. She threw herself into Jeanette’s arms and sobbed, “Mom, that bit-” She caught herself just in time when she noticed Garrett and Spencer nearby. “Adelaide called the psychiatric hospital and told them to come take me
away.“”
Everyone in the room looked shocked.
Spencer was the only one who stayed composed. He asked, “Adele, did you really call them?”
“Yeah, I did.”
Adelaide’s blunt answer made the Pierce family look more

upset. If they hadn’t been inside a police station, Jeanetter might’ve slapped her again right then and there.
Garrett leaned in and whispered, “Babe, this is a family matter.
How could you actually make a call like that?”
The moment Garrett seemed to take her side, Amanda lit up.
She launched into a dramatic sob story. “Garrett, she was trying
to provoke me! I lost control and broke a few things, and she just
called the psychiatric hospital right in front of me. And the
police, too! If you don’t believe me, there are security cameras at
the restaurant!”
Jeanette was fuming. “Finley! Are you still going to defend her
after this? Look at how she’s bullying your own daughter! A
woman this vicious has no right to call herself a Pierce!”
Garrett knew better than anyone that what mattered most to
Adelaide was her bond with the Pierce family. If they truly cut
her off, it would destroy her.
He tried to comfort her with a low voice, “Babe, let me handle
this. But please, just apologize to them. Just cool them off, or
they might actually cut you off.”
Adelaide lifted her head and stared at him with a cold gaze.
That look said more than words ever could. Garrett suddenly felt anxious. He knew he’d said the wrong thing. He moved

closer and apologized to Adelaide in a low voice, “No, babe, don’t get me wrong. That’s not what I meant.”
Amanda, watching Adelaide and Garrett getting cozy, felt like she might throw up. She ran straight to Finley and clung to him,
crying even louder. “Daddy!”
She was his biological daughter after all. Finley couldn’t stand seeing Amanda in this state. He gently patted Amanda’s back,
trying to soothe her.
“Spencer, go handle the paperwork. We’ll deal with this at
home.”
Finley hated airing family drama in public and Adelaide knew that very well. But she had no intention of giving him what he
wanted. “Dad, I’m afraid we can’t just let this go. When the
police arrived, Amanda was about to attack me. That counts as
attempted assault.”
Jeanette instantly snapped. “Attempted assault? You’re sisters!
That was just a little spat! Don’t exaggerate it!”

The entire station lobby was watching this family drama
