Chapter116
I went to the second floor, and the doctor was talking to Cierra.
“Only a few days left, it’s no use trying any more medication,”
the doctor said solemnly. “Mrs. Schmitt, please accept my
condolences.”
Cierra wiped away her tears and nodded, “Thank you.”
Even though she knew it was impossible to turn back time,
when she heard those words again, Adelaide still felt a chill run
down her spine, her feet as heavy as lead, unable to move an
inch.
Cierra found her, “Adelaide, you’re here. Your teacher is a bit
more awake now, go in and talk to him.”
“Okay” Adelaide nodded and entered the house.
Sitting on the edge of the bed, Anderson turned his face with
difficulty, his eyes already wide open, weakly looking at
Adelaide.
Adelaide forced a smile, reached out, and shook the old man’s
hand.
“Teacher, are you trying to tell me something?”
Chapter116
Anderson tried to lift his head, Adelaide turned away, staring at the bedside table.
She asked, “Do you want me to open the drawer?”
Anderson nodded.
I opened the drawer, there was only one photo inside, it was still the Anderson family portrait.
She was about to ask if he wanted to see the photos, when suddenly she realized something.
Anderson got to this point, why didn’t his son’s family of three
come back from overseas?
She looked at the old man and said, “Teacher, do you want me to help?”
Anderson cried.
About ten minutes later, Adelaide came downstairs and found
the dining table set with four dishes and a soup, while Garrett
was sitting on the living room sofa with Cierra.
Cierra was still not happy with Garrett, but she wouldn’t show
it openly.
Adelaide felt guilty and didn’t have the face to stay here
anymore.

She said, “Garrett, come with me.”
Garrett immediately got up, “I cooked dinner, won’t you stay
and have it with Mrs. Schmitt?”
Cierra also looked at Adelaide, giving her a reassuring
expression, “Adelaide, let’s eat first before we go?”
Adelaide shook her head and said, “Mrs. Schmitt, let’s have
dinner another day. I got a last–minute work call and need to
work late at the office.”
“So, okay,” Cierra had to give up.
I heard she had to work overtime, Garrett’s expression
darkened. He walked out of the Schmitt’s villa with her and
then said with concern, “You’ve never worked before, and now
you have to work overtime. How can your body handle it? Quit
that job. I’ll arrange an easy job for you, okay?”
Adelaide stopped in her tracks, glaring at him, “I used to work, I
was a vocal teacher, but you ruined my first job.”
Garrett looked a bit upset, “I don’t want you to work hard and
suffer. You were born to be pampered, you don’t need to toil for
a job.”
“Your fiancee is the real heiress,” Adelaide retorted coldly.
When it comes to Amanda, Garrett seems more disgusted. “She

just has the title of the Pierce family heiress, but you’re the one who’s really well–raised.”
Adelaide felt a chill in her heart, “So from the beginning, you
were thinking the same as the Pierce family, that even if I joined
the Barnard family, as long as I played the role of a pretty vase,
staying at home all day, waiting for you to come back, right?”
Garrett frowned, “How could you think like that? There are so
many wealthy families in Evercrest, aren’t those rich wives just
eating and drinking all day, taking care of the family? Do you
want me to be like those useless men, forcing my wife to go out
and work to support the family?”
