Chapter 7
The group continued chatting, occasionally glancing my way.
Seeing my indifference, they kept going.
“Mason shouldn’t be doing this. He already has a girlfriend–this is basically cheating.”
“Mason isn’t married to her. Honestly, he probably just sees her as a casual fling.”
“Please, Mason is the heir to Tilden Aviation Group. How could a little tour guide be worthy of him?”
Hearing these words, I finally understood why Mason didn’t believe me–he’d known all along that Nova was pretending.
Unable to bear it anymore, I walked up to them step by step and spoke in fluent Spanish:
“Are you finished?”
‘Let me tell you all right now–I won’t be with Mason anymore. It’s not that I’m not worthy of him. He’s not worthy
of me.”
With that, I ignored their shocked stares and turned to leave.
Soon after, I heard them discussing again behind me.
‘Wait–how does Elodie, a domestic tour guide, know Spanish?…”
‘Has she been hearing everything we’ve said these past few days?”
From that day on, Mason’s friends all avoided me.
They didn’t dare tell Mason that I understood Spanish.
Mason also seemed to forget his promise to give me a replacement gift, spending all his time helping Nova prepare or the wedding…
didn’t mind, because I was also trying on wedding dresses one by one–just without the groom by my side.
The day before the wedding.
I received another call from my sister.
‘Elodie, tomorrow you’ll marry into the Ford family. You can still change your mind.”

I gripped the phone tightly: “Sister, I won’t regret it. I’ve thought it through–our family only has you and me as daughters. We need support from other families more. Marriage has nothing to do with love.”
My sister sighed.
“I’m sorry…”
“Don’t apologize. Marrying someone wealthy and influential is more important than marrying someone you like.”
Just then, a familiar voice came from behind me: “What did you just say?”
I hung up and turned to see Mason.
Mason’s brow furrowed slightly: “Is that how you see me?”
Wealthy and influential?
I knew he’d misunderstood, but I didn’t explain.
“Why are you here? Aren’t you keeping Nova company?”
Mason didn’t answer, instead handing me a new gift.
“This is your gift.”
His tone turned cold.
‘Elodie, I always thought you were different from other women. Now I see there’s no difference. When you said you wanted to be favored, you really just wanted money, didn’t you? If you need money, just tell my assistant directly. No need to play games.”
After Mason finished speaking, he walked out the door.
After three years together, I never expected Mason to think of me this way. I picked up the gift box, intending to
return it to him.
But before I could leave, I heard Mason on the phone, speaking in Spanish.
‘Of course I’m nervous. Nova is my youthful dream, and now I can finally marry her.”
‘According to our family tradition, the bride and groom can’t see each other the day before the wedding.”
‘But I really want to see her right now…”
Mason spoke while quickly walking outside.
I don’t know why, but I found myself following him.

Mason, who usually only went to bars and clubs, actually went to an amusement park this time.
His friends were there, and so was Nova.
The moment Mason saw Nova, he couldn’t wait to rush forward and embrace her.
I stood in the distance, not knowing what they were saying.
But I suddenly remembered a saying:
‘Men make it very clear–they take their girlfriends to bars and clubs, but they take the women they want to marry
o Disneyland.”
