Nova quickly sent another message.
“Mason gave me his secret files that he’d saved for 1,580 days to help me recover my memory.”
“He said these are proof of our love.”
“This love letter–Mason started writing it the day we broke up, and he’s been writing it for four years.”
I clicked on the photos first. They were all pictures of Mason and Nova together.
In the photos, Mason smiled brightly, his eyes full of happiness.
I couldn’t help but remember how whenever I wanted to take photos with Mason before, he’d always say: “I don’t like taking pictures. You go ahead and take them yourself.”
Next, I clicked on the videos.
Mason in the videos looked like a teenager–completely different from the steady man I knew..
He acted like a child in the videos, making Nova laugh.
“I have two cupcakes in my hands. If you can guess how many there are, I’ll give myself to you as a prize.”
I suddenly remembered a quote from Twitter: “When a man truly loves a woman, he becomes like a child in front
of her.”
So it was true.
I opened the love letter.
It began with:
“My wife.”
“I miss you so much.”
I read bit by bit.
“May 20th, 2022, I climbed Half Dome, the mountain we always said we’d climb together. They say couples who climb that mountain together will be together forever. Too bad the person who climbed with me that day wasn’t you.”
I froze, remembering that I was the one who climbed Half Dome with Mason that day.

I continued reading: “Christmas 2022. I held her, but all I could think about was how you looked in your Christmas outfit. I don’t know how long it’ll take me to forget you. Maybe soon, maybe never.”
My chest felt like it was stuffed with cotton.
Christmas 22–Mason and I were tangled in bed until late at night, and he was still thinking about Nova.
“New Year’s Eve 2023. I didn’t count down with her. Instead, I flew to Switzerland, to the fairy–tale town of
Lauterbrunnen that we once visited together.”
I was stunned. That day, I’d cooked a whole table of delicious food, but he said he had to go out for something urgent.
I thought it was work. Turns out he was off reminiscing about his past with Nova.
I kept reading:
“February 14th, 2024. A boring Valentine’s Day without you. She spent it with me today, but I know I’ll never forget
you.”
That Valentine’s Day, I’d specifically taken time off to spend with him.
But in his eyes, it was just “a boring holiday without Nova.”
This letter was very long.
Longer than the three years he’d spent by my side.
I don’t know how much time passed before the door suddenly made a sound.
I locked my screen.
Mason opened the door and came in, his voice tired: “Still awake?”
hummed in response.
I thought you wouldn’t come back tonight.”
Mason walked over: “If I don’t come back, where would I sleep?”
After all, we weren’t a public couple. He always secretly stayed in my room.
Alright, I’m going to shower.”
He put his phone on the nightstand to charge and went into the bathroom.
Water splashed softly, and Mason’s WhatsApp kept buzzing.

“Did we really sleep together before? Why do I feel so nervous when I touch you now?”
I clenched my hands, my fingertips digging deep into my palms.
Fifteen minutes later, Mason came out of the shower.
He saw me still sitting by the headboard with red–rimmed eyes.
Thinking I was upset about recent events, he walked over and asked:
“Were you crying?”
I slowly loosened my clenched hands, looked up at him, and tried to stay calm.
“Yeah, I just read a very touching love story.”
Then I said: “Didn’t you say before that you needed to keep distance from me for Nova’s memory recovery? If you’re staying with me now and she finds out, she’ll get suspicious.”
“Why don’t you get another room? Let’s stay separately for these few days.”
Mason looked at me with a complex expression.
But he still agreed.
“Elodie… once this fake wedding is over, I’ll make things clear with Nova.”
I watched his figure disappear at the door.
I couldn’t help but smile bitterly.
No need to make things clear.
This time, you’ve gone too far.
We’ll never be together again!
